Now, as for you, Hughes...
If you were a brgadier General, I wouldn't be any prouder. Congrats, sir. I dare say that God cannot be mocked, and he does not contradict himself. The paths that men take to attempt to manifest as much as they know of an invisible God does. in turn, affect all those who stand in their shadows. Men ought not to judge God, as his pormises have been fulfilled in the past and the Bible is accurate even to the date of occasions even 2000 years before the events took place. A studious commendation to you sir, for letting the Holy Spirit work with you.

commandments
Actually the Hebrews counted over 600 commandments. They fall into two groups. The first given at the mountain was the commandments that talk about man's relationship with God. The second set of commandments were given right before they entered into the promised land and they deal with man's relationship with each other. This is what we need to do, to enter into the promises of God.
I believe the atonement was two fold. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to reconcil us with the father, but also so we can be joined together with each other as one in Christ.

Is that even a commandment?
Yes. Jesus is specifically asked to say "which is the great commandment in the law?" and replies "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 22:37-39.) Both the commandments he cites appear in the Old Testament.
"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might" is Deuteronomy 6:5
"Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" is in Leviticus 19:18
