Re: Yahweh speaks with forked tongue
Everyone surely dies.
But, they did not die the day that they ate the fruit, Adam lived for 930 years, so he hardly died the day he ate the fruit.
Where did God say you will die the day you eat the fruit? Before eating the fruit, there was no death. After eating the fruit, there was death.
Remember, a prophet is so called because he/she speaks God’s words, God puts words in their mouth. Whether the prophet is in on the ruse is not known, which really wouldn’t make much difference anyway.
Those are called false prophets, and they are/were much more common than real prophets.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8

Re: Yahweh speaks with forked tongue
Hi Tal,
Genesis 2:17:
Where did God say you will die the day you eat the fruit?
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
God didnt say that you would die hundreds of years later. There is no mention of a spiritual death. God lied.
Before eating the fruit, there was no death. After eating the fruit, there was death.
Another example of your lack of Old Testament knowledge. No problem, of course, I take it you are a relatively new convert to Christianity and there is a lot to learn.
This claim that nothing died before the Fall is entirely unbiblical.
Look at Genesis 1:29-30
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
So, you can see that all that Adam and Eve had to eat was really just a vegetarian diet, I mean they had to eat something in order to survive didn't they?
Also, all the animals similarly ate plants and herbs (1:30)
So, as plants are alive, this idea that nothing died before the Fall is simply untrue.
Those are called false prophets, and they are/were much more common than real prophets.
Yes, a false prophet sent by God to test Israel.
You do understand that the prophet himself/herself may not have known that Yahweh was behind the test.
Brian.

Hang In There
Actually Shaz, you are the only respondent to the Original Post that supplies and answer to the Original Question which basically is "are there any references in the Bible that claim God is omnipotent?"
All the rest of the responses border on worthless derailments.
Hang in there. I think you have the stuff. More answers are appreciated if you have them.
Regards, Abshalom

Obviously, God is all powerful. It is all over the bible. God can just say something and it is so. Now you are asked if God himself stated it? Leme look. He did, I am sure. Just cannot remember.

Wouldn't starving yourself be considered a sin? There was death and decay even in the time of adam and eve with the stars and things. But adam and eve were going to live forever until they sinned.

Re: Hang In There
Hi,
There was death and decay even in the time of adam and eve with the stars and things.
I know there was death before the Fall, that's why I pointed it out to Tal.
But adam and eve were going to live forever until they sinned.
Biblical support for this?
Brian.

The Almighty
When I check out the usage of Almighty in the OT, it seems to be used as a name or title as opposed to an action.
Do you read the usage as people truly claiming that God IS omnipotent or just calling him most powerful like we call government officials Honorable?

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Crashfrog, I agree Adam and Eve were going to die within a thousand years after eating this fruit (2 peter 3:8).
This appears to be the time limit man could live without eating the fruit of the tree of life, not 120 years. After the flood man started living less and less until 80 years was considered a full life.
Adam died at 930 years (kjv genesis 5:5) 70 years short of the end of the day (kjv 2 peter 3:8) that he ate the fruit.

Re: Yahweh speaks with forked tongue
Hum.
Or, to put it in perspective.
God created the world.
God created Adam and Eve (totally innocent .. which means they did not understand the consequences of their actions)
Because they didn't understand the consequences of their actions, they screw up.
God kicks them out of the garden of eden, so they would not live forever.
They have lots of kids, and but their children children keep on screwing up. God deciedes to wipe them out in a flood, except for Noah and family.
God sees he screwed up again with the humanity thing.. so he sends himself down to earth as his own son, so that he have himself sacfrificed to himself to save the world from himself.
Now, everyone can live forever, amen.

Hi Purpledawn

Generally I take the usage throughout the bible, to people making reference to Him as being all powerful/omnipotent. However I believe the premise for this opinion is taken from Gods words to Abraham and Jacob.
Genesis 17:1 "the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty"
God spoke to Abraham
Gen 35:11 "nd God said to him, I am God Almighty"
God spoke to Jacob
The only other place I can find where God directly calls himself Almighty, is to John in Revelations 1:8. "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."
I should add I find it ironic, that it is also the first and last book of the bible, that God calls himself Almighty - the beginning and the end.

Hi, GO, the only omni in Strong`s concordance is omnipotent at Rev.19:6. The other oms are inferred, but don`t ask me where.

There are more example of God telling lies, but one example should be enough to demonstrate that God can tell lies.
I agree one example is enough. I think I agree that God would tell lies, or at least tell others to tell lies, but I don't think your examples are sufficient.
Despite your objections to it, most (or all?) Christians, and in this case myself included, believe that Adam most certainly did die in the day he ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The death, however, was spiritual, not physical.
And I don't see how Deut 13:1-3 involves lying. God sends a person to test people by encouraging them to worship other gods. He tells them in advance that he's going to do this. Where's the lie?
He did send a lying spirit to deceive, uh...shoot, memory's giving out...I think it's Ahab. He agreed to the lie suggested by the spirit and then sent the spirit to deceive Ahab.
