First of all I'd like to apologize if I am posting this topic in the wrong forum.
My name is Kyle and I am 15 years old. I have recently become very interested in the Creation-Evolution topic, and I enjoy debating. Please do not disregard my comments because of my age, but if I say something foolish feel free to correct me. I have done some reasonable study on this topic including reading alot of information off of talkorigins.com I am currently a young-earth Creationist. I do not go to any church, but I do try to read the bible periodically. Thank you everyone. [This message has been edited by Percipient, 01-18-2002]

Welcome Cobra Snake.
The "Great Debate" area isn't the place, but personally, I do think this site does need a place where the individuals on the creation side could post a brief position statement. Maybe put it in your profile signature. I have much trouble keeping track whether:Young earth or old earth? 7 day literalist or something else? Inteligent design avocate or not? Great flood or no great flood? I think the evolution side is pretty unified, but I've put my little statement in my signature profile. Hi Kyle, and welcome.
BTW, I would suggest not giving out your first and last name on any internet discussion group or chat room. Did you notice that the town and state that you live in are also listed? It would be easy for someone to find you if they wanted to. Now, on to the discussion... Why are you a young Earth Creationist? [This message has been edited by schrafinator, 01-18-2002]

Truth be told, the main reason I am a young-earth creationist is because that is what my parents taught me. I have looked at many of the facts and I am still unconvinced that natural processes alone could account for everything in this world.
However, I am beggining to think that old-earth may be more realistic. I am heavily researching the carbon dating process, and if I can't find any significant flaw in that process, I will likely change to an old-earth Creationist. I hope I can be a good contribution to the intelligent debate in this forum.

I think it's a great idea to include Evolution/Creation position statements in the user profiles. I'm a bit busy these days, but I'll put it on the list.
As long as I'm posting let me mention that I'm busy enough that I'm stretched a little thin in my moderator role in The Great Debate forum right now. Hopefully Larry, moderator for Topical Discussion, can cover, but I knows he's busy, too. Everyone, please send me email if you have any concerns about possible guideline violations as I always check email daily. Oh, and I could use a better Creationism glossary for the website, and I think adding a Bible dictionary is a good idea, too. If anyone knows of some good ones let me know via email. --Percy (admin@)

quote: I wouldn't recommend getting overly focused in on the carbon dating process. It is just a tiny part of the evidence in support of an old earth. Rummage around at:

To Cobra Snake-
Please read through the existing messages. Much has already been covered. It is clumsy for all to start over again every time a new member shows up. And take it easy on starting new topics, until you've read through the existing messages. Moose ------------------Old Earth evolution - Yes Godly creation - Maybe

There are many more types of dating that Carbon 14, which only works to a maximum of 50,000 years. You might also want to investigate other types of dating:
Argon/ArgonUranium-series Thermoluminesence Electron Spin Luminesence Biostratigraphy Paleomagnetism |

Allright.
I've already posted one topic but I'll make sure to look at the archives before posting more.

"First of all I'd like to apologize if I am posting this topic in the wrong forum."
--Its allrighty, I agree with shraftner, there should probley be a place where you can put up something of the nature. The Debate area would be the discussion area, ie the sciences. "My name is Kyle and I am 15 years old. I have recently become very interested in the Creation-Evolution topic, and I enjoy debating. I'm no nerd I'll tell you that much though "I am currently a young-earth Creationist. I do not go to any church, but I do try to read the bible periodically."--You should find yourself a church with a cool youth group "Thank you everyone."--And thank you for participating. --------------

"Truth be told, the main reason I am a young-earth creationist is because that is what my parents taught me. I have looked at many of the facts and I am still unconvinced that natural processes alone could account for everything in this world."
--I actually was never taught the creation story as it greatly relates to science. For me personally, I am absolutely convinced that the 'earth' is no more than 6-10 thousand years old, though the stars could be thousands more (I realy havent made my decision yet, I ordered the book 'starlight and time' and I've read 'God time and stephen hawking' and plan to get my hands on more to be more understanding in the feilds of cosmology and cosmogeny. "However, I am beggining to think that old-earth may be more realistic. I am heavily researching the carbon dating process, and if I can't find any significant flaw in that process, I will likely change to an old-earth Creationist."--Personaly in my belif it seems to myself as evolution being very unrealistic, though my knowledge and understanding of the supporting evidences seems to be very compatable with a young earth. Carbon 14 Dating being the most widely known along with Potassium/Argon. They are two of I believe 7 radiometric dating methods. I would urge you to order and read the book "Bones of Contention" another one I want to get my hands on is "Radioisotopes and the Age of the Earth" the only problem is its huge and its like $50 or something. "I hope I can be a good contribution to the intelligent debate in this forum."--All I have to say is praise the lord for an Intelligent debate on the internet

Mr. Snake,
my name is Brad McFall and my Grandfather was from South Dakota who was the first person to find the western hognose snake and the rainbow snake in Illionis who studied genetics and later taught in western NY from whom I got a very good education about snakes as a teen-ager. I started a 4-H Herpetology Club to continue my interest before I went on to Cornell when I ran into a lot of 'will' about creation and evolution that use "kids" had already discussed in the club. As for some information about creation and evolution or young and old earth for instance, my grandfather left the farm and "simple faith" of his family for the east and a belief in evolution that my mother did not continue though she likes to think so. I have been studying it for years not just getting it taught to me and I would like to let you know that it was in the 30s when my grandfather's first wife died in child birth that while Stan wanted to 'return' "to the simple faith of (my) family" he could not being in that muddle and so reached to evolution and toxic nature of kidneys to explain the death. He later re-married and the tension of children from two blood lines continued to be perceptible to me a generation later which I used to discriminate herpetology from ornithology no matter the ichthyology but because much of c/e or e/c is so personal with me many people still do not understand the criticism experience I bring . Hope this helps and welcome aboard.

Thanks again for your support. I'm sure most of you will be hating me later.
I tend to think I'm not a nerd either, TrueCreation. I am on the football and basketball team, and I have a good group of friends. I go to a class C school. I think I should join a church or at least a youth group. I am going next Wednesday to a youth group. My friend has offered to give me a ride there every week, so I think I will try to become a regular member of the group.

Have fun on wednesday, mine is on Friday like today, but anyways, welcome to the Debate and happy debating ------------- My pretty signature!
