Which the west does as well.
And I have criticized the use of coercive police power by Western governments to enforce arbitrarily chosen social norms. Especially social norms that reinforce the powers and privileges of the ruling elite. Especially the enforcement of property rights over the right to a decent standard of life. I just don't feel that I need to include a detailed list of every single criticism I have of every single individual or institutions in every single post that I right.
And you are a enough of a regular member to recognize that most of the people who have criticized IANAT in this thread have also been very vocal in their criticisms of the US government and US society over the same issues. I don't think the charges of hypocrisy are entirely appropriate.
Edited to add:
In fact, this particular exchange began when IANAT decided to criticize American society for its lack of morality, blaming it on atheism and "cafeteria religion". While there is much for which to criticize the US, I do not believe that the specific charges that IANAT brought up are valid ones. And since he himself thinks that his Islamic state is a worthy model to emulate, criticisms of his model are appropriate.

Well, it's only fair. After all, I still don't see why US law is irrelevant to a conversation about US law. And I asked you that ages ago.
Very disapointing. Let me ask you this: why do Yanks think that everything is About Them Personally?

No, thats i why they are EXACTLY appropriate.

Well then you must be frothing at the mouth about my accusations that the US is barbaric, cruel, a near Fascism, a great committer of atrocities, and that the bulk of its population are hypocritical racists. Right?
But your nunwillingness to confront these things is NOT an adequate reason for I, or IANAT, witholding our criticism of the US. I will NOT be held to the US's self regarding fictions and kneejerk demonisation of all critics.

This is the second time on record the so-called moderators have turned a blind eye to outright bigotry. Clean up your act.

Then apply them consistently.
We do the best we can to do just that.

Respect for IANAT was not demonstrated and what did you do? Bugger all. Twiddled your thimbs.
We are not talking about IANAT right now. I do not remember anyone calling IANAT and idiot, yet I do remember you doing that to Dan. You can even see it for yourself, and so can everyone else.
We are talking about your behavior, contracycle.
Do not make personal attacks or face a 24 hour suspension of posting privileges.
quote:
As I told you, you don't have sufficient credibility to impose such "discipline".
That is your opinion.
However, it is also true that you called Dan an "idiot", which is a obvious personal attack and a violation of rule #3, which YOU agreed to abide by when you signed up at EvC.
quote:
All you have is power, like any bully. You may do what you wish, as I have no power.
Of course you have power.
You have the power to stop violating rule #3.
This is about YOU contracycle, not anyone else. Even if the moderators were completely unfair to everyone else, it would still be the case, fo all to see, that you violated rule #3 by calling Dan an idiot.
Now, I am uninterested in any more discussion of this.
Please abide by the rules.

Re: Focus Factors
Let me ask you this:
Anything to avoid answering the question, huh?
why do Yanks think that everything is About Them Personally?
That would be a difficult question to answer, for the same reason that no one believes you when you say the magic goblins in your eyeballs won't stop screaming. You see, it's difficult to take someone seriously who takes such great issue with something that exists entirely in his imagination.
If I'm mistaken, and there is some sort of mass campaign of bigotry and personal assault against IANAT on this thread, then please quote an example. Preferably without making stuff up, as you did with "tryanny" and "barbarians".
In the meantime, in the spirit of soothing Moose's inflamed cranky pants, I'll back off a bit now. You've had two very specific requests made of you: defend the bigotry charge, and explain your bizarre assertion that US law is irrelevant when discussing US law.
Address them directly if you have an answer to them.

"You can't expect him to be answering your prayers when he's not real, can you? That's like writing to the characters of a soap opera and expecting a reply, Mr. Silly Sausage!"

Will someone please read my post #122?
I just cannot convince myself that contracycle has actually read my post. Could a third party please read our posts and explain to me how contracycle's post is a response to mine? I cannot see any substantial disagreement between our posts on any single point, except that I conclude that criticism of IANAT is appropriate and he does not.
Edited to correct a typo.

Re: Will someone please read my post #122?
I read it through at least 6 times and I don't understand it's connection with your post, either.
It seems that contra cannot handle it when people disagree with him, or agree with him.

Salvage Topic IF Possible
Wow! The original title of this Thread was about Organized Religion--not random chaos. As for personal spirituality, the members within this post have done anything BUT express anything spiritual.
Alas...I must close the post that I started.
