It is generally accepted under the auspices of Biblical rules, that rejection of God is the ONLY unforgiveable sin. I've seen people post to be ex-atheists. Under the rule of law of the Bible, can there be any such thing as an "ex-Atheist"?

Certainly. I do not limit what God can forgive. If he truly is a GOD why couldn't or wouldn't he forgive an atheist.
Can you even imagine a GOD that would get more than a chuckle when told he didn't exist?

if you believe.
if you believe the bible, I'm doomed to an eternity in hell. I'm an Atheist. According to the bible that IS the one thing I can't be forgiven for...the bible says it all over the place....I'm toast baby, shed no tears for me, I'm going to cook...unless of course, there's an out for Mr. Congeniality (I don't think thats gonna' happen)

A) Who sayz that God wrote the Bible? I could write a book that said "By Gawd" on the inside cover, but it wouldn't make it true.
B) If God is content to act like he doesn't exist, he shouldn't be surprised when people take him at his word.

While my study of christianity has been lacking as of late I think what it refers to is after death. Jesus wiped the slate clean for all sins and you are free to go to heaven and forgiven of all. As long as you haven't denied him. If you deny him you commit the unforgivable sin and goto hell. The gist is that you have up until you die to accept him even after denial as long as its before your death you are still free to go either way.
I think there is a little cavet hear in that the mark of the beast is equivalient to permanent denial of god.

According to what I have been taught all my life, you only need to believe in God and its omnipotence the moment right before death to get into heaven.

Re: contrare
Rocket, I'm not a pastor, however, if Paul was a chief sinner, but was saved because of ignorance, and he recieved mercy, that you might qualify to the laying on of hands by a believer, Paul needed a believer to lay hands on him before he recieved the Holy Ghost, in the book of acts some people believed, were baptised in water, but did not recieve the baptism of the Holy Ghost until Peter and John prayed and layed hands on them, some believed and were baptised in the Holy Ghost without the laying on of hands or the baptism of water(though they were baptised in water later), so leaning some, perhaps you, and other atheists while you believe have some occultic problem that requires the laying on of hands and the prayer of a born again believer, some require prayer, the laying on of hands and oil, like in the epistle of James (kjv James 5:13-16), etc...
P.S. The people in acts were involved in the occult and the apostle paul killed Chrisitians, though those that were into the occult, the people of Samaria (kjv Acts chapter 8)and the apostle Paul (kjv Acts chapter 9) believed, but needed the laying on of hands, etc...

Re: contrare
That won't work out. See, the dealeo was that Paul did NOT believe, and then he "Saul"...BWAHAHAHA...but anyways, there is no return from being a "believer" and becoming an "unbeliever"...you're screwed after that.

Rocket, Thought that was what the annointing of oil mentioned in the Epistle of James was all about(back slidin christians), did you get anointed with oil, in prayer and the laying on of hands by elders, etc...

Without getting into the question of whether denying God damns one irredeemably to hell, I'd like to respond to the question contained within Rocket's topic title.
He uses the word "know" in a clever construction that seems to imply that if one has come to "know" anything about science and one is an atheist, there can be no "return" to theism. It's a good point so long as it isn't taken too far.
If one has studied science to the point that one accepts such theories as big bang and evolution, I would suggest that one could not become a fundamentalist of any faith. However, spiritual experiences do seem to happen (at least according to those who've experienced them) so I should think that it would be quite possible that a knowledgeable atheist could become a theist of sorts.
I don't think it is possible to revert from a position of knowledge to a position of ignorance unless there is some mental disability at work. Therefore, if a knowledgeable atheist claims to have reverted to fundamentalism, that person is either mentally unstable or intellectually dishonest.

Let me get this straight. After we die, we either go to hell or we go to heaven, right? And in both cases, it's forever, right? But I'll have to acknowledge God before death, to get into heaven. So, based on an infinitessimally short portion of my eternal existence (doomed or saved), it's decided which way I go. Not only that, but it's also at the very beginning of my eternal existence, when I cannot reasonably be expected to be as wise as I would be after, say, a few million years in heaven. It's like asking a toddler to decide what it will do with its life, the first milisecond after it has spoken it first word. Sounds hardly fair to me.
