Although I appriciate strong faith and wish more people did, I would like to assert two points in contrast to your statement, 'no- the best option is to believe God's words if you are christian'.
1. THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN BY HUMANS SO MISTAKES DO NOT FALSIFY THE CHRISTIAN FAITH, IT MAKES US IMPERFECT, AND WE ARE. The Scriptures are(accurate) interpretations of God's word. The effect of God's original word however many millenia ago has been that of playing 'telephone'. First He said something, somebody wrote it down, or in some other way spread the Word. Let's face it, as fallible humans somebody probably screwed up the message by maybe a single word. No big deal. Then, when people started writing Bibles I'm sure there were mistakes that were overlooked, and when the Bible was, over the years, translated into however many dozens of languages, there are bound to be either mistranslations or phrases that just don't directly translate to whatever language. Whether you believe that or not, it's clear that the Bible was physically written by humans. The Bible specifically says humans are fallible. Need proof? Ezekial said Nebuchadnezzar would conquer Egypt, and he didn't. Fear not, because somewhere in the New Testament(Memory loss) Jesus said there were some chinks in the old one. God can cover for our mistakes, so don't worry about Bible typos. Sorry about the long-windedness..
2. WITHOUT QUESTIONING RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY WE WOULD STILL BE UNDER THE CORRUPT CHURCH OF THE DARK AGES. The church interpreted God's word in certain ways that it would benefit them, and for no other reason. Shoot, they even made up their own rules that weren't in Scripture. If we don't ask a question once in awhile, we'll never know if we're walking the straight and narrow. It's thanks to guys like Voltaire and John Wesley(and a BILLION other great folks both spiritual and atheist) that we can use our own spiritual sense to better our understanding of the Bible's mysteries. God is all for being an individual and trying to better understand Him. By all means, don't test your Creator. Test the people who dictate their own views of the Word.
