quote: Understanding the god Jehovah is to read his book of over a thousand pages in which he's self depicted as male gender. Spirit deity needs nothing physical including specific body parts to determine gender. Don't try to make him human. His inspired words says he's male, all 1000 + pages of them. You wanta feminize him, go ahead at your own risk, but remember one thing........he also refers of himself as a "consuming fire" and he, the god of love, does get fed up eventually and becomes the god of wrath. Just a helpful warning from a friend. Ok?

quote: 1. Crashy, there's one problematic word in your statement about God, that word unconditional. You insult him by feminizing him and some day in the here or the hereafter you'll see his love is not totally unconditional. "Be sure your sins will find you out", says, not buz, but God's words. 2. The male is created and depicted as the stronger of the sexes with the leadership role in the Bible. To feminize the creator deity is to imply that deity to be of the "weaker sex." quote: ........in the original book about Jehovah, so what else do you have to go by? If it were't the Bible nobody'd ever know there was a Jehovah. So let him choose his gender. If you want to talk about a goddess, go to another book of another religion. Ok?

quote: Let these gods prove themselves as Jehovah has by something supernatual and they'll have my respect. In fact I respect Satan and his demons as powerful real life beings. That's why I go to God and his son, Jesus to overcome and resist these powerful entities and their human agents, whomever thay may be. Jesus is the "big brother" who can whop them. Puny little humankind bus's no match ror the least of these without higher help.

quote: I can't believe the total ignorance you all are expressing in these nonsensical posts about the god Jehovah. When I make statements about Muhammed or his god Allah, you all in a chorus want documentation from his book the Quran. So why don't you all give the god Jehovah the same respect and let him say who and what he is?? Your nonsenical statement is implying that every statement in the Bible about the god Jehovah must refer to gender. The cited scripture simply is saying he's the "existing one," which is the meaning of Jehovah. This's all so nonsensical on youall's part. Shame on the lot of you in this regard! ------------------The immeasurable present is forever consuming the eternal future and extending the infinite past. buz [This message has been edited by buzsaw, 11-06-2003]

But you DO try to understand God's nature - and you do so by assuming that the Biblical references (written by humans, not God !) are God telling us that He is literally male. Try an alternative view - the passages describing God as male are not a literal truth - rather they reflect the posiitons of the genders within the society of the time. Our society is different and those distinctions are very heavily eroded and so there is no insult.

Hey, it was just a thought.
Anyway, can you admit that the references to god in the bible as being male could just be a result of the patriarchal culture in which it was written? A few people have brought this up and it seems to be the likeliest explanation. The Rock Hound

Ah, now we get down to it. "Woman" = "worse" to you and the Bible, so naturally God must be male, because male is better.
Well, you can think like that, if you like. That's just one more thing that drives me away from religion.
