I'm going to slip into Admin mode because Elcano has me concerned.
Tazmanian Devil writes:
Actually, I would like to point out that Elcano hasn't said he's a creo.
True, but he's operating way outside the clarity envelope we usually like to see here. If we're struggling with a language barrier that's one thing, but if we're actually dealing with a debate tactic that involves avoiding addressing rebuttals by faking a language barrier that's another.
I'm concerned that people are starting to feel the need to explain the most basic things, such as that an article about the Russian revolution written in the year 2000 doesn't mean the revolution took place in the year 2000. I don't really believe language barriers cause these types of misunderstandings, but there's no urgency for figuring out what's really going on. I expect the truth will emerge soon.
I must have made a typo when entering his IP into the lookup program. I did it again and it turns out he does have a Russian IP.

A word from board administration...
Elcano's approach to discussion seems a bit unusual to say the least, but after observing this thread for a short while I see no need for administrative action, and in fact perhaps this thread represents an opportunity.
The primary task of participants at EvC Forum is one of effective persuasion, in essence posing the question, "How do I make the light bulb go on for the other guy?" Elcano seems to present a particularly difficult puzzle in this regard, and so this thread perhaps represents an opportunity to hone your persuasion skills. So far no one has succeeded in getting Elcano to understand, among other things, that volcanoes can and do erupt more than once, or that the excavated Pompeii site reveals a 1st century Roman town, not a 17th century Italian town. Seems quite a significant challenge.

Board administration steps again...
Hi Elcano,
We recognize that English is a second language for you, and even realize that it is possible that you don't know English at all and are just using a translation program, but that doesn't relieve you of certain responsibilities. My concerns had settled down as it was beginning to appear that a dialogue with you was possible, but your recent very short and very cryptic responses have raised my concern levels again. In the future please follow these suggestions when composing a message:
  • Quote the passage of the message you're replying to.
  • Do not be so brief that it isn't possible to tell what point you're trying to make.
  • Do not compose responses to rebuttals by only repeating what was just rebutted. You must actually respond to the rebuttal.
  • Do not ignore what people are saying in their rebuttals.
  • Do not let rebuttal consist solely of a link to a webpage. Provide the relevant excerpt and a link, and surround them with relevant clarification and argument.
EvC Forum encourages rational and informed discussion. In order to stay here you must demonstrate that this is within your capabilities.
