An excellent analysis of the fallacy of the creationist population argument. I have seen the argument on many occasions in the past 20 years and I have seen as many rebuttals that reveal the stupidity of said argument. But this response is, without doubt, the clearest and most comprehensive rebuttal that I have seen. Well done, dwise1.

Message # 77
I think Rahvin's post broke down, in a very logical way, the current social misconceptions about sex and the multitude of realtionships that, while being some what unconventional, still maintain a healthy unity between 2 people.
This quote sums it up:
quote:
I think you're singling out people who engage in casual sex because they're different, and because you are personally incredulous at the idea of a stable, committed relationship that is not monogamous.
Great post, Rahvin.

Petition to Bailout Comedy The Laugh Factory is imploring Congress to immediately fund what owner Jamie Masada calls an "Economic Cheer-Up." If Congress fails to act quickly, the Laugh Factory comedians are planning to march to Washington and plea to President Obama.

Aren't these all the same issue of radioactive formation of C14 and background levels?
quote:
51. Carbon-14 in coal suggests ages of thousands of years and clearly contradict ages of millions of years.
52. Carbon-14 in oil again suggests ages of thousands, not millions, of years.
53. Carbon-14 in fossil wood also indicates ages of thousands, not millions, of years.
54. Carbon-14 in diamonds suggests ages of thousands, not billions, of years.
RAZD does a fine job, covering why you get or seem to get C14 in materials older than the range that can be C14 dated.

All I can say is, nice work!
I also encourage all to read all of that "Geologic Column" topic - Short and lots of good stuff, although #24 may be the best.

Enthusiastically Seconded
Just yesterday I was thinking that it was time RAZD got another POTM. But there were too many of his posts to pick from.

Thanks.

Message: #22 Re: Analogy - not
Dr. Adequate lays out clearly not only why the analogy chosen to start the thread is bad but also why analogies are both not needed and unhelpful. Good stuff.

Percy on Information
Author: Percy
Forum: Miscellaneous Topics in Creation/Evolution
Topic: coded information in DNA
Post: #270: Some Correct Information about Information
It perhaps doesn't move the debate on (I suspect little could more the debate on with WordBeLogos) but Percy clearly and simply lays out what Shannon Information actually means and how little it has to do with the Creationist's cartoon notion of information.

RAZD for total annihilation
Message 333
Another demonstration of the clear, well-supported answer to error that RAZD supplies.
A simple, totally wrong statement was made. RAZD didn't just shoot it between the eyes, he nuked it.

Re: RAZD for total annihilation
I'll second RAZD's nomination, and add that that post was an excellent resource for abiogenesis as well as humiliating WordBeLogos' position.

Re: RAZD for total annihilation
Thanks, Ned and Rahvin
... and add that that post was an excellent resource for abiogenesis ...
I'm thinking of expanding it a little and posting it to 'links and information', as a kind of "building blocks 2" thread, designed to let people add to it as new information becomes available.
Enjoy.

Dr Adequate, at "Where Faith Comes From in the "moderate" Christian religions"
Author: Dr Adequate
Forum: Faith and Belief
Thread: Where Faith Comes From in the "moderate" Christian religions
Message #: 18
The topic originator was looking for a source of Christian faith outside of the Bible.
I think that some of the Bible's content is an essential part of the root of Christian faith. Dr. Adequate's message would be the message I would write, if I could write a decent quality message.
His summary there:
In summary, it is perfectly possible to come to Christianity through the Bible without believing it to be flawless...

Also, Peg, at "Where Faith Comes From in the "moderate" Christian religions"
Author: Peg
Forum: Faith and Belief
Thread: Where Faith Comes From in the "moderate" Christian religions
Message #: 4
The topic starting message writes:
In a recent post I've thought about how "moderate" Christians come to their religion besides through the Bible (as to them it's not ALL literally true). If so, then on what do they base their beliefs? Any takers/thoughts?
Peg writes:
So besides the bible, faith/belief is a part of our nature. And how we choose to exercise that need is a very personal thing based on our perceptions, life experience and environment.
While Dr. Adequate (see previous POTM above) does "the rest of the story", Peg's message directly and specificly addresses the topic theme and the message 1 content.
