Percy in Message 42
Percy clearly took a long time over this well thought out post. Not only is it entertaining and full of facts, but it eloquently sums up the important information in regards to the core of the debate.
For example, the Mississippi river delivers about 300 million cubic yards of sediment to the Gulf of Mexico every year. That's equivalent to a block of material about 2/5 of a mile per side. For reference, the Empire State Building is about 1/4 of a mile tall. That's a lot of sediment, and that's just one river. Thanks Percy.

As I recall, roxrkool has since added more and quite possibly even better messages at the same topic. I was just hesitent to getting into a "roxrkool has posted again, Moose POTM's it again" rut.
Also general kudos to many posters at the Long build up of Sediment topic. Moose

I think Percy's post 154 in the Long build up of Sediments thread deserves recognition, for a comprehensive refutation of Faith's various statements, as does nosey's post 155 immediately following for an exhaustive compilation of various geologic issues Faith has so far failed to understand.
(And Faith, this is not a knock on your intelligence. Geology is a difficult and complex science... even if you don't see it that way.)

Forum: Is It Science? Thread: Scientific Fact versus Interpretation Message: 5 When most people say 'fact' they mean that there is enough corroborating evidence for it to be unreasonable to not accept it. It is always healthy to be tentative in conclusions, but it is unnecessary to continuously reaffirm the tentatitivity of knowledge. This topic has accumulated about 50 messages in it's first 10 hours of existance, and certainly seems to have turned into quite a mess. Such was the state when I first saw that the topic even existed. I have real fast skimmed the rest of the topic. I must now decide if I want to go to the cited topic and comment on a message that is that far back in the thread. Moose {Side comment: I believe I was the one who started the "Member, at "topic"" mode of POTM subtitles. Many others have also adopted such. I think it would be a very good thing for all to adopt such.}

I would second that at the same time nominating post 166 by Percy in the same thread. While there have been absolutely excellent contributions (all POTM worthy) from posters like rox and edge, percy seems to have attached himself to the topic and gives extremely streamlined answers (as much as any can be with the adequate detail he provides). Very calm and collected too. holmes "What you need is sustained outrage...there's far too much unthinking respect given to authority." (M.Ivins)

He controling the process and giving me a resource to learn from. An excellent job of keeping the details from becoming overwhelming.
Thanks, Jar.

Thank you sir. We are still deep in the sub-basement but I hope that we'll find an elevator soon, and maybe an express elevator once we get some of the basics out of the way.

Damnation I wish I had seen that thread earlier. It is an excellent attempt to move through exactly what some of us geo people have discussed with creos who insist that ancient dates are presumed, and forget that relative dating alone can get you there by just looking at the column itself. I can only hope creos with questions are making it through the absolutely excellent info being handed out there.
On that note it would seem a shame to not cite Roxrkool for providing mountains of material on the region. holmes "What you need is sustained outrage...there's far too much unthinking respect given to authority." (M.Ivins)

I'll have to settle for thirding this nomination and echoing Holmes' kudos for Rox.
I'm still recuperating from a recent hospitalization (I think this old alley cat's on Life #9 now--8.5 if I'm lucky) and mostly in read-only mode, but this thread is worth sitting up for right now. Great job, jar, and you, too, Rox, as Best Supporting Poster. Who owns the whole rainy, stony earth? Death. Who owns all of space? Death. Who is stronger than hope? Death.Who is stronger than the will? Death. Stronger than love? Death. Stronger than life? Death. But who is stronger than Death?Me, evidently. Pass, Crow. Get better soon, so you can get some POTMs yourself.

Thank you, sir. Big of you, considering there's probably very little we agree on.
