Mark,
Thanks so much. I only wish I had the first clue about the fundamental foundations of science (no insult intended). I'm reading Evolution as Dogma as instructed, but I can't get past the first chapter. ------------------I would not let the chickens cross the antidote road because I was already hospitlized for trying to say this!-Brad McFall [This message has been edited by MrHambre, 10-06-2003]

Thanks moose. I plan on opening another thread in misc discussions(?) if Holmes or anyone else is up for it. It bids fair to being an interesting discussion. It'll take me some little time to come up with the quality of response Holmes deserves - and I'll need to hit my bookshelves tonight to dig through some references. Tomorrow okay?

Thanks, and I won't mind contributing to an on topic thread if Quetzal wants to start one. I too thought Quetzal's post was clear and well assembled. If it takes time to assemble that level of quality before starting the new thread (and I am not saying this sarcastically), by all means Quetzal, wait until you are ready.
I like good clear debates. ------------------holmes

Cool! Thanks for the comment on quality. It was very much off the top of my head, however, and was inevitably very superficial. Responding to the points you raised in your reply, OTOH, requires a substantial amount of additional depth... I will try and get something up today.

Forum: Misc Topics Thread Name: Terrorism- Criminal Act or Act of War? Post#: http://EvC Forum: What would we think if Percy..... -->EvC Forum: What would we think if Percy..... {Edit: Topic has been moved to the "Coffee House". It is now at http://EvC Forum: Terrorism - Criminal Act or Act of War? -->EvC Forum: Terrorism - Criminal Act or Act of War? - Adminnemooseus} It would have been easy to nominate posts for which I agree, because there are so many well composed posts for which I agree... usually leaving me with that "why didn't I think of that?" or "why couldn't I have said that so well in my post? feeling. There have even been some well composed posts with which I have disagreed. However, Quetzal's opening post in a thread devoted to an argument we are about to have is so well written it is without question the first opposing post that has required me to THINK. And I mean THINK HARD. Most topics pretty much rely on evidence and how to interpret it. This requires analysis but is easy to leave out subjective anlysis. In a topic that defies simple evidence/interpretation roles Quetzal did not reduce his arguments to pure emotional appeals (which seems to happen even among evos once clearly objective borders have disappeared). Regardless of what I am about to do to that post, it is worthy for its ability to provoke serious thought on a very important, yet amorphous issue. For those I'm about to rock I salute you. ------------------holmes [This message has been edited by holmes, 10-09-2003] [This message has been edited by Adminnemooseus, 10-09-2003]

Forum: Coffee House Thread: Terrorism - Criminal Act or Act of War Post#: 16 and 17 At the extreme risk of being accused of "mutual stroking", I would like to draw everyone's attention to holmes' clear, lucid rebuttals to my OP on that thread. On a subject with high emotional content, whose roots extend backwards into the mists of history, and but which is as pertinent as tomorrow's headlines, the level of discourse is often reduced to sound bites and appeal to popular opinion. Holmes shows a refreshing grasp of the complexities of the topic, and has brought an incisive analytical ability to focus on the problem. Not to mention that he's a damn good writer. I'm excited about pursuing this discussion. Even though, ultimately, we may not agree, this is exactly the type of discussion that needs to occur on this subject. If only our leadership were having the same debate, I would feel more confident about our ability as a nation - of for that matter as a community of civilized nations - to confront terrorism.

Forum: Book Nook Thread: The Awesome Philip E. Johnson Post#: 1 Mr. H artfully and factually deconstructs the philosophical and scientific errors made by the thread's title creationist in his book "Darwin On Trial". One of the best short critiques I've read on the subject. Besides, after being excoriated in his very own thread devoted to the purpose, I felt it would be nice to give him something to brag about.

Thanks, Quetzal!
Y'know, it's the first time I've ever helped a serious discussion along. And it's a good feeling. -Esteban ------------------The bear thought his son could talk in space about the time matter has to rotate but twisted heaven instead. -Brad McFall

Hi. My name is Mammuthus, I am a joke-aholic. I have not been ironic in two days.
Group claps..Moose looks on suspiciously while fingering the trigger of his gun nervously. Hambre sweats profusely trying to hold back. Quetzal pulls out a book "It was Overkill get over it dope" by Rei to distract himself. Dan Caroll smokes like a chimney and twitches.
