quote: According to Matthew the Jews took the guilt upon themselves, and all their descendants. Luke has Jesus forgive somebody but in the context it is quite likely those that were actually carrying out the crucifixion, and therefore not even Jews. Even if you interpret it more generally it doesn’t seem to be required by the text.

Both evolution and physical anthropology touch on human racial variation to a greater or lesser degree.
In graduate school I had a lot of both, including dedicated courses on Human Races, Evolution, as well as primates, osteology, advanced osteology and a few other closely related courses. This served to teach the differences between human races, to the degree that many or most anthropologists no longer subscribe to previous ideas of human races. We are all one group with variation in many individual traits, most all of which form clines. The "classic" view of races is still current among many populations but the scientific basis has been severely eroded in the last 50 or so years. Rather than supporting physical-trait-based racism, anthropology (including evolution) are leading the fight against it.Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge. Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. Heinlein In the name of diversity, college student demands to be kept in ignorance of the culture that made diversity a value--StultisTheFool It's not what we don't know that hurts, it's what we know that ain't so--Will Rogers If I am entitled to something, someone else is obliged to pay--Jerry Pournelle If a religion's teachings are true, then it should have nothing to fear from science...--dwise1 "Multiculturalism" demands that the US be tolerant of everything except its own past, culture, traditions, and identity. Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other points of view--William F. Buckley Jr.

Seems to me the idea of race is pretty simple: it's the collection of traits that emerge in an isolated part of the species gene pool over years of inbreeding. In animals this often leads to inability to breed with the parent population or other populations or races for one reason or another, but humans continue to be able to interbreed. So in animals races often become new "species." But I agree, overall the idea is artificial, it's just an accident of history that a group gets isolated and inbred.

Seems to me the idea of race is pretty simple: it's the collection of traits that emerge in an isolated part of the species gene pool over years of inbreeding. Things often seem simple when you are clueless about the issues. That way you ignore any possible complexity and just spout off simple crap. Are ad hominems all you have to offer? Why not your own understanding of race?

It should be obvious from what has already been posted that the ideas of race used by racists do not generally agree with the biological concept of races. If you haven’t been following the discussion you have only yourself to blame.

I was responding to Coyote. What's your problem?

You were responding to NoNukes, complaining about ad hominem again. I pointed out that NoNukes is right. You really don’t understand the issues of race. Consider the one drop rule again and tell me that it makes biological sense.

I responded to Coyote with my understanding of how races come about. I have no reason whatever to think anything different than that. NoNukes said nothing about my description just started putting me down personally. What led you to get into this I have no idea, and I don't even know what you are talking about.

quote: I got into this because you were ignoring points I had already made.

You responded with a biological idea which has very little to do with the idea of race in social contexts - such as dealing with racism. There is that as the main point. There is also the point that her biological musings are equally silly and simplistic. Human beings are a single species, and in fact, a single sub-species under any possible definition. Faith is just laying her speciation does not involve mutations crap in a thread where it does not belong. There are at least five or six open and abandoned threads where that shite can be posted. Please not here. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Well thanks for the clarification. I had no idea what on earth you had in mind. Mutations eh? That's your excuse for the personal attack? Byond that, single species, where did I disagree with that?: Single sub-species? Under wht species?

If you don’t like people pointing out that you don’t know what you are talking about it is a good idea to avoid posting things that are ignorantly wrong.
