I have just seen an amazing documentary on TV, concerning near death experiences.
8 seconds after the heart stops, the brains electrical existence is finished.
Yet the people who have literally died, then minutes later, (between 10-30 minutes) have been revived, tell of the most amazing experience. They are able to recall tools used in their operation, movement's of doctor's and conversations. They explain they were hovering above their body, then where pulled towards a light, some tell of meeting a person who divided into three, and many people surrounding him in a light form. They recall an immense love hitting them, and communication occurred within thought.
Many of the people who have experienced this, have later changed their entire life, mostly into the service of others.
There is now a science emerging to study this. The fact they are finding, is that the brain and the mind are two different entities
This I believe is one of the most exciting new sciences in our world today, for as the people studying this said, the implications will change eveything.
They are beginning to find that life exists after death, they believe our separate brain state is pure energy, and that energy can not be created or destroyed, but that is has been shared by something, we are a tiny part of it, and in the death of the brains first state are released toward it, (the energy).....An amazing documentary...I believe we are temples for this energy, how about you?
This is the second place I have posted this message, and would have you all look into a bit more, a very cool science.

8 seconds after the heart stops, the brains electrical existence is finished.
Where's your/their documentation for this rather startling claim, Nasa? I rather would guess that brain cells and/or their associated red blood cells can retain oxygen a little longer than eight seconds.

well you have lots of claims in there and a nice "argument to the future" but nothing I've not seen before.

6 to 8 minutes
8 MINUTES, (not 8 seconds)and the person that was will no longer be without CPR. They will more likely be a vegtable on a ventelator if they survive at all. Anyone that does not get circulation to the noodle after 15 minutes and they're goose is cooked save for cold water drownings that pushes that figure much futher out.

Thread moved here from the Short Subjects forum.
I'm not sure this is the correct forum, but I do know that Nasa has been starting all her topics in the no proposal needed forums. This really needs to stop.

Thanks Asgara.
I really wanted to reply to the subject, but your assessment is correct, so I won't encourage the activity by responding.

I think that if there IS some sort of existence for us outside of our physical being, it will never leave traces. Everything you mentioned can (and indeed has, even here on this very forum in another topic) be explained scientifically or logically. That's not to say that there isn't an afterlife, soul, spirit, or whatnot, but I think it is to say that we will never find physical evidence of such a thing. If you ask me, we'll just have to wait until death to find out for ourseleves. This is all simply my opinion, though, so don't bother arguing it with me .

I have also heard testimonies like this. Some were not so pleasurable.
Some appear to visit hell. One story I remember goes something like: a man after visiting hell was revived and then devoted his life to studying the Bible and became a minister.
As far as evidence of afterlife experiences, I think you would have to look at the individual cases and verify that the details of activities that they can describe fit what actually happened and that there is no other way they would know. I think this has been done to a certain degree, but I haven't reviewed the evidence myself.

And it could be that the brain has such low activity that it is unable to be measured. As far as I know, they are using electrodes on the surface of the skull. To fully measure the lack of brain activity you need electrodes directly on the brain matter in question. It could be that these people's brains are active and are capable of registering stimuli from the outside world. Hence, they are able to remember what was going on in the operating room. Most times, NDE's of this type (10-30 minutes without revival) involve some type of hypothermic trauma, so that the metabolism is dramatically slowed by not altogether stopped. For instance, in Soviet Russia they actually used hypothermia to stop a person's heart for open heart surger instead of using a heart/lung machine. People undergoing this procedure often report NDE's.
Also, NDE's may be an artifact of oxygen deprivation. People often report very similar responses from oxygen deprivation, including tunnel vision and "seeing stars". There is no reason that commonalities between NDE's could not be caused by a similar mechanism.
I won't challenge the fact that these experiences can change one's life. Even conscious near death experiences tend to alter one's life forever. The thought that you almost died tends to shock one's psyche and make one realize what is so dear about being alive.

I like science, I love and enjoy science, I love topics like this. Science is not exempt in anyway to the study of the strange or improbable, look at the Theory of evolution.
The brain dies fairly quickly after the heart stops.
The memory cells within the brain need a continual supply of oxygen and energy to function.
The electrical output of the brain, that is measured in many high risk operations. Finishes or dies out rapidly after the heart has stopped.
What amazes is the people who have died for minutes, some past 20. Explaining to the doctors, tools used in their operation, complex instruments they could in no way have seen in their position. (Death)-Also the positions of the doctors around the operating theatre, including the jobs they were doing, along with their conversations. These people were always heavily sedated, most with tape or bands over their eyes, for medical reasons, unsure what and the most mind blowing again - clinically dead!
Blind people have seen, when entering into this experience!
They also can describe the complex instruments they have never seen.
They speak of seeing amazing colors.
They tell of being told to change their lives, for if not the place of LIFE after death they just visited, may not be the same the second time around. It may, quite literally not have been their time.

Would you prefer it? HE is generally used when one doesn't know the gender of the other poster. As this is just as likely to be wrong, I see no problem with switching out pronouns.
