I was recently corrected by a few members of this site and i would like to thank them for making me aware of my stupitity.
The reason i wanted to find out some things about space is in my eye's and interesting story.
Earlier on today i told another memebr of these forums my story and they told me that i should post it.
since as long as i can remmeber i have always had a grasp on this number 2012, so many things as i believe it are surrounded by this number.
2012 is the year that tragidy is suppose to come to earth, some believe that it is a certain planet x, a planet that moves through out the universe and returns every 3600 years, the samerians believed that it would be some sort of special beings, the mayans have it down on their calander "ton" the end of the mayan rule,
both these peoples were the smartest and well developed cultures of their time, both wiped out.
all this stuff has caught my attention over the years and i wasn't even looking. it also just happens to be the digits of my birthdate, 20th of the 12th =2012? and then in the year 2012 my birthdays full date with be 20'12/2012. thats scary as the primary date for all these apocoliptic cries is the day after my birthday.
because of all this talk of planet x and myths of the world getting scorched from the sky i decided to see if the numbers for my birthday on 2012 meant anything on a star chart, i have never worked with right ascention or descent before but i entered in 20'12 - 20'12 and microsoft world wide telescop took me to a region of space named Sagitta, which is also short for sagittarious, my star sign? the closest celestial body to these co-ordinates is a little slightly known planetary nebula called NGC6886, it seems to have some small planets suspended round it but is definately not a star as the shape is wrong and in the middle the light gets darker.
What i would like to know is, does anybody have any clear pictures on NGC6886 and does anybody else have any simular freakish findings on this subject. i want to stay with facts mostly so please, no theories please.
thanx
JJ

It was 2003 it will be changed again ...
See:
http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/question
quote:
Nibiru is said to be a large planet on a highly elliptical orbit with a period or 3600 years, which comes onto the inner solar system and will disrupt Earth in 2003 (the original claim) or 2012 (the current claim).
The whole thing is utter, foundationless nonsense. Don't worry about it.

2012
The supposed significance of 2012 is due to it being significant in the Mayan Long count calendar. From the wiki article;
quote:
Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbrath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.
It's just a dating milestone, like the turn of the millennium. It doesn't mean anything is going to happen.

You can't pick a more crappy little PN than NGC5886 This is the best photo I've found so far. You certainly can't see planets around it. The term planetary nebulae are so called because in the early days, it was thought the disc of gas might be a proto-star or proto-solar system in formation. Actually, the reverse... it is the beginnin of the end for the star in question. It has swelled up to red giant phase and has then shrugged off its vast gaseous bulk, leaving a small white dwarf. The bulk diffuses away from the star and makes the disc-like appearance that we see. Check here for some awesome photos.
Oh, and regarding apocalyptic happenings in 2012... pure bullshit of course, which is sad really as it would definitely spice up the world a bit.

Re: It was 2003 it will be changed again ...
i'm not disagreeing, i read the official reply in the link you provided, and i am not worried about any opocolyptic warnings, like i said this is what these cultures believe, two of the best societies of the ancient world.
i'm hoping to find more about it, because there is no harm in being therough.
thanx for your response NosyNed

a region of space named Sagitta, which is also short for sagittarious
Sagitta is not Sagittarius. They are two distinct constellations entirely.

Re: 2012
Yes she is well known indeed, but some people have also been studying her and other works of ancient mayan culture and believe that something could be happening around that time.
i have no fears of any end of the world stuff that may arise out of this so like i said, just the facts please.
your reply is greatly appreciated and i enjoyed the information you gave.
but some believe that the mayan where describing a new age brought by the rotation of the universe, we all know that the moon effects the water on the planet, i don't know if you call that gravitational pull but the moon also effects humans too as we are 70% water. Ian Xel Longold believes that with the aproach of the new age of aquarious that maybe the mayans being the great astrologists of their time had maybe corisponded their calander to this. and Ian Xel longold beliees that this may have an effect on humans and take us into a greater age, so its not all about the end of the world.
Thanx for your reply again

This bit of nonsense has been around a long time. It's debunked here.
In the popular imagination, lunar influences on the human mind are often ascribed to the moon's gravitational effects. Not everyone realizes that, although the moon is able to move oceans, this is achieved only because the moon's gravity acts over the 12,800-km diameter of the earth, which pulls back with a comparable force. But the moon exerts no influence on smaller bodies of water such as lakes and even some seas, and the difference between a person's weight in the presence of the moon's gravity and his or her weight if there were no moon is "less than the effect of a mosquito on one's shoulder."

Sagitta: http://www.coldwater.k12.mi.us/...rium/myth/Sagittarius.html
apparently its greek for arrow.
this is the astrological sign for sagittarious.
thanx for your reply

Re: nice one
Hey JJ, there are no stupid questions
The white dwarf will sit there and slowly, very slowly cool down. Eventually it will become a black dwarf, a tiny crystalised husk of the original star. But this takes far far longer than the present age of the Universe!! So the coldest white dwarfs are still several thousand degrees at the surface and will stay that way for billions of years.

Re: 2012
just because it doesn't present any activity in the moment of a full moon or any other lunar activity doesn't mean that over time it doesn't any effect on us. but might as time progresses through the ages especially when you take into account the planetary allignment in may 5th 2000 and this new age of aquarius which some call the great age.
but i'm not argueing with you,,, i'm throwing the ball around a little.
thanx for your comment.

Sagitta is as different from Sagittarius as the word 'arrow' is from 'archer'.
Sagitta
Abbreviation: Sge
Genitive: Sagittae
Symbolism: the Arrow
Right ascension: 19.8333 h
Declination: +18.66
Area: 80 sq. deg. (86th)
Main stars: 4
Sagittarius
Abbreviation: Sgr
Genitive: Sagittarii
Symbolism: the Archer
Right ascension: 19 h
Declination: ’25
Area: 867 sq. deg. (15th)
Main stars: 12, 8
Hope that helps.
