I think I saw those drawings in a high school text book some time ago.

Re: typical evo idiocy
Faith, what is it...in msg 245 you say:
but I certainly remember when the Biogenetic Law was gospel, and ontogeny recapitulating phylogeny was drummed into my generation in high school
and now 41 posts later:
I think I saw those drawings in a high school text book some time ago
Which is it...you think you saw the pictures or the concept was drummed into your generation?

I'm an idiot
Sorry, I phrased my request poorly so what you posted wasn't what I was after (entirely my fault - off to bed with no supper for me ).
As all this off topic and the thread is nearing the end I won't pursue it. I might start a new topic after Christmas if I can be arsed.

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Re: typical evo idiocy
I tried to explain it to Randman, but of course he wouldn't listen. Yes, ******* substituted dog embryos for humans. But it really didn't matter. The principle was accurate. My author pointed out that the dog embryos and the human embryos were almost identical.

Re: typical evo idiocy
Oh brother. Well I don't want to get into this endless discussion about ********** But that wasn't the charge against ********* The charge is that the embryos were NOT accurate, do NOT represent what really occurs. Also, if ontogeny does not recapitulate phylogeny (or is it the other way around?), what is the point of there being similarity between embryos anyway? DESIGN ECONOMY REIGNS!!!!

Oh brother
I'm just telling you what my book says. Here's a quote: "Heackel had fraudulently substituted dog embryos for the human ones, but they were so similar to humans that these (if available) would have made the same point" (28).

Please. The point is that the idea was correct, according to my author. My book was published in 2001.

Re: typical evo idiocy
Well, I've found Randman's points credible so I'm now in the position of doubting Mayr.

I don't think it matters, Faith, what authors I use. You'll doubt them all. It doesn't matter what evidence I present. You'll dismiss it with contempt.
However, I will soldier on.

Please don't. If you feel I'm treating you with contempt I think the discussion is simply over.

Actually, I'm enjoying it.
Don't take me too literally, Faith. I'm just an old joker.
I have some things in mind that I think will convince you.

Closing time
And joy - It looks like robinrohan and Faith have managed to once again string together at least 3 messages each, that had absolutely no connection to the theme of the topic. Didn't I suspend you two for something along those lines once before?
Take any responses to this message to the "General..." topic, link below (no new apology topic).
