Again, we are talking about the POSITION OF THE BEHOLDER. Right. Like when someone beholds a massive, catastrophic flood and believes it to be global.

Uh huh, sorry, the sun's standing still left no evidence but the flood did. Too bad for your smugly stupid little comment.

Uh huh, sorry, the sun's standing still left no evidence but the flood did. Good. We're in a science thread. Please provide the scientific evidence that supports the flood myth. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Uh huh, sorry, the sun's standing still left no evidence but the flood did. Too bad for your smugly stupid little comment. It obviously wasn't a stupid comment, since it proved my point. You personally look at natural evidence when interpreting the Bible. If the Bible contradicts your interpretation of natural evidence, as in the layout of the solar system, you reinterpret the Bible to incorporate the natural evidence.

This is off topic. Where I was going: I think it is quite on-topic to discuss selective interpretation of Biblical accounts based on what one personally accepts as scientific evidence, whether it be for the theory of Copernicus or Darwin. It does not directly address the Wilson/Watson interview, but it does get to the heart of why certain theories are seen as representative of atheism, and others not - in other words, why some people think that Darwinism Equals "No God", but Copernicusism Equals "Interpret the Bible to Fit the Science". If you think this is still too far afield, I will happily stand down. Thanks.

I guess there could be different opinions on this, but I see this thread as coming at the "Darwinism => atheism" from the science side. You can come at the same issue from the Biblical side, but it seems out of place given the way this thread started with Charlie Rose's interview of Watson and Wilson as a point of departure.
Let me make a few suggestions. You could find an existing thread in which to pick up that angle on the topic, or you could begin a new thread, or if you're willing to wait 24 hours to see if discussion on the original topic resumes, I guess it would be fine to discuss it here if this topic remains dormant. It does seem to possibly be winding down.

Faith writes: The Bible is the word of God in all circumstances Which bible? There are many interpretations and translations they can't all be right. Or do you read it in original Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic?

Was that to me or Faith? I don't use the bible.
I think you raqise a very good question to Faith. The Catholic Church is reponsible for deciding what books were included in the liturgy

Well, I'm glad to hear you don't believe evolution leads to atheism I think it does--not automatically and certainly, of course. One has to turn one's God into a "Hands-off" God at the very least. A hands-off god is one step away from atheism.

Why? Your God, Jar, if I understand you correctly, is a God that invented the laws of nature, and after that let things play themselves out by themselves. That's what I mean by "hands-off."

But that does not preclude his involvement, miracles, guidance, conversation.
