From: http://www.glacier.rice.edu/land/5_iceofallshapes.html
quote:
Ice shelves are thick plates of ice, fed by glaciers, that float on the ocean around much of Antarctica.
They float, thus they won't be under water.

But ice shelves are attached, aren't they? And therefore if the water rises, covering the glaciers, the shelves will most likely break off and form icebergs. So do you mean icebergs?

Hi Southerngurl
I don't think the whole earth, including the poles, would entirely melt...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome. You're doin good. I agree that the poles likely froze quickly and stayed frozen. I heard that tropical stuff has been found frozen in the ice near the poles, but would need to do some checking to verify if it is so.
As for some of the insects and things, Noah had years advance notice to build the ark and likely prepared some means of preserving many of these things in the ark. He also had communication with God, some of which we read about and possibly some which we are not aware of. There may have been revelation from God as to what was needed and what to do for some of these specific problems.

I don't think the whole earth, including the poles, would entirely melt...
From the energy of trillons upon trillions of gallons of water pouring forth onto the Earth? I mean, we're talking about the "fountains of the deep", which, by virtue of proximity to the moletn mantle, are already superheated. But even if they weren't, the energy of friction involved would superheat the Earth to hundreds of degrees - yes, even the poles.

I don't see why the worms wouldn't survive on some glaciers.
Ignoring the fact that glaciers are made of ice and worms eat dirt (thus, they wouldn't have any food and would die from starvation), the Bible directly contradicts this possibility:
Genesis 8:8: Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;
8:9: But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.
If there were icebergs and other floating mats, the dove would have found a place to rest her foot. But there weren't any, so we can't even consider floating anything as a safe haven for animals not on the ark.

Actually Rrhain, it appears the ice worms live up to six feet deep in the ice and eat red algae! Who knew?

You did, so it would seem. That'll teach me to go more links back than I did to catch the complete thread.

D'ye ever thing you migh haf worms?
That still leaves the point standing that there were no icebergs, and without icebergs the ice worms are irrelevant, no?
And besides, worms "creepeth", don't they? So they were killed whether they "creepeth" the ground or the ice, no?
Gen 7:21: And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth...

Dog is my copilot.

Re: Who could resist fishing...
Thanks, Deathknight. But the scary thing is that creationist societies all over the US have this painting of the inside of the ark, and guess what, you see the top of a stegasaurus in the foreground!
Now, if NO-ah had to carry some dinosaurs, how much room would be left for anything else? Also, how much freakin' food would just one stegasaurus go through in one day alone?
It just amazes me what some grown adults believe

Re: Who could resist fishing...
Or that why haven't we found any dinosaur bones dating back to his time lol....since all of the prehistoric bones ("PREHISTORIC") date millions of years ago...so and I am pretty sure he didn't just invite a T-rex or Deinonychus to have feed on the other animals to undo the whole point. The other thing is I don't think that every animal in hte world enjoys inbreeding...i.e. screwing their mom, I mean I see dogs do it, but that is about it and I don't think they could have force breed every animal like we can now unless it like a South Park "Red Rocket" insident lol...
