Phat writes in Message 73: In my opinion, the Green New Deal was premature. Again, no one talks about the Green New Deal except Republicans. It was a policy proposal from a freshman representative back in 2021 that went nowhere. Republicans have latched onto it as a useful campaign issue. How many more times are you going to be corrected about the Green New Deal before you finally acknowledge you're being had.
Trump wants to go back to reliance on oil at environmental expense. We can't "go back to reliance on oil" because we already rely on oil. That has never changed. Wind power supplies only 10% of our electric grid, solar only 6%. EVs comprise only 7% of all cars.
Our greed and desire for cheap gasoline may also be an example of our inhumanity. You've bought the Trump Kool-Aid. We're the top producer of oil in the world and a net exporter. It is political uncertainty and disruptions, primarily in the Middle East, that cause the price of oil per barrel to increase, the primary factor affecting the price of gasoline, another being changes in seasonal demand, and another being refinery issues. Rising oil prices have nothing nothing to do with domestic oil production. If Trump really wanted to bring down the price of gasoline he'd be saying "build, build, build (oil refineries)", not "drill, baby, drill." There are around 150,000 gas stations across the US, each one needing frequent gasoline truck deliveries. Imagine if over time all cars, trucks and busses became EVs, and fuel like oil and natural gas only needed to be delivered to the 13,000 electric power generation plants where very aggressive scrubbers clean the combustion products, and no fuel at all would be needed by the increasing number of solar and wind farms. Gasoline would gradually fade away, EVs would become far cheaper just from the economies of scale alone, and our contribution to green house gases would drop by around 10%. Around 30% of greenhouse gas contributions come from power plants. They have to be replaced with wind and solar, and also nuclear if they ever succeed in designing a new generation of nuclear power plants that remove the possibility of meltdown and whose spent fuel can be easily and safely disposed of. And coal is a big no no, which even with scrubbers emit twice as much greenhouse gases than natural gas plants, and far more pollutants like sulfur dioxide and particulates. Scrubbers can make coal plant emissions better but not good. --Percy Edited by Percy, : Grammar.

The Biden administration recently expressed support for next-gen nuclear...and in a rare case of the broken clock being right twice a day, Trump has apparently expressed support for nuclear as well (we'll see if he follows through at all). Solar and wind have gotten so cheap that the government is no longer needed to continue propelling their adoption (though government fuckery could make them more expensive, such as with tariffs). It's cheaper to buy solar power than oil or gas. now. We've hit one of the rare positive tipping points.-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers “A world that can be explained even with bad reasons is a familiar world. But, on the other hand, in a universe suddenly divested of illusions and lights, man feels an alien, a stranger. The current administration is the real "pop" culture. Now that many of the Hollywood elite pagans are being exposed through the downfall of Diddy and now that many of the government elite will lose their jobs, the popular voters will get their revenge over being told what truth was and what they could and could not say. And that goes for around here too. I acknowledge that I have blood sugar and rational thinking problems at times, but I refuse to be shamed into silence.
As for Dr.Oz running Medicaid, he is certainly better qualified than Dr.Rachel Levine who advocated for transgender youth being encouraged to express themselves and that gender dysphoria was incurable. This is controversial between conservatives and liberals. The Biden administration championed diversity, equity, and inclusion. The part of that that the conservatives dislike is that the "professionalism" that many government officials claimed to have was not conclusive. hence the mega swing back to the right. The conservatives have a mandate by popular vote to either fix things or shoot themselves in the foot. Elon Musk has proven himself to be efficient and smart. Mike Huckabee has governed well. The Jury is out on Dr.Oz. Personally, I dont think that the Trump administration will save the US Dollar. It will continue to become worth less even as the commodities worldwide increase in value and show the true global standard of value. Bottom line: The sanctions did not fully work. And one more thing. When (not if) the US Dollar gets in trouble, don't blame Trump. The damage was and is a bi partisan issue.

And now the clowns are running the circus while the chief law enforcement officer dodges arrows after a career as an open, rather careless and arrogant, pedophile.
Such class and wisdom Trump brings to our diminished stature in the eyes of a very dangerous world. Only the best people indeed.“There’s simply no polite way to tell people they’ve dedicated their lives to an illusion,” -Daniel Dennett Stop Tzar Vladimir the Condemned!

He doesn’t trigger Phat’s transphobia and that’s the most important thing.
Seriously Mehmet Oz was actually a pretty good surgeon, but that hasn’t stopped him from espousing quackery - which makes him a great fit with RFK Jr.

I'm beginning to think that Idiocracy wasn't actually a documentary.
It was too optimistic.-->“The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it.” - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. Let the domestic poor compete with undocumented workers for jobs and make work a necessity rather than a luxury. That same "issue" was just mentioned on Alex Wagner Tonight and the guest also mentioned Walmart. Several years ago on the radio I heard Ralph Nader discussing how Walmart operates. First, when they move into a town they negotiate that move with the city government in order to get "special incentives" including tax breaks, relaxation of zoning and other regulatory requirements. So, basically, they receive welfare from the local government. Then they work around labor laws to avoid having to provide healthcare and other benefits to most of their employees. Since they cannot qualify as a small company, they instead limit employees' work hours, making sure to keep them under the limit over which said employees would qualify for those benefits. Indeed, a very important part of new employee orientation training is to take the new hires through filling out the forms for applying for welfare, including food stamps and Medicaid. So they're working but they still have to go on welfare because they are not allowed to earn a living wage. You're a union man. How does that sit with you? Interestingly, Walmart can't pull the same stuff next door in Canada where they're doing just fine. Also, junior military members with families depend on food stamps in order to eat. Or are you going to claim that they don't work? The plan to give the wealthiest Americans yet another huge tax cut (and increase the national debt even more like Trump did the first time) involves throwing millions of people off of Medicaid and food stamps. Instead of that tired old right-wing bullshit of "work requirements for welfare", how's about trying "They're not asking for a hand-out, just a hand."

Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration as Attorney General. Looks to me as if the Ethics Committee had the goods on him. The Republicans all wanted to keep it secret, so we may never know, but we can be sure it never came close to clearing him.

Since Gaetz - probably - resigned to escape the Ethics Committee report I doubt very much that he would want to go back to the House. That would put him right back in the firing line.

The report leaked yesterday, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was leaked by a Republican. Senate Republicans had already hinted that they weren't going to confirm him. I also wonder if Kevin McCarthy was involved, a last stab in the back and turn of the knife.
