The Emperor Has Clothes
My understanding is that Trump v. United States (2024) confers immunity to the presidency against any such investigations, charges or Federal Court actions.

Already the federal prosecutors are closing up shop from Jack Smith to the Florida documents cases.
Special counsel Jack Smith expected to wind down Trump prosecutions: Sources - ABC News
What are left are the state cases and the Hush Money case. Even these may soon fall under the SCOTUS Immunity ruling.
Oct. 15, 2024
Trump, in a filing, again asks the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals to transfer his New York criminal hush money case to federal court in an effort to stall his Nov. 26 sentencing or throw out his conviction altogether.

Right now, I don't think any jurisdiction can touch him.
No. He is not going to jail.

Another Step Back
This is a nation of laws, even for those who seem to relish in breaking them because they’re financially and politically able to get away with (most of) it. We have little choice but to do as the law intended.
There not having been any great controversy in election proceedings (despite Trump and company still insisting there is (undefined unevidnced) fraud) this election can be seen to be as close to free fair and open as a modern society can make a national poll.
Which means Trump won and we live a very sick society.
Enlightenment v 2.0 is not progressing as many of us had expected, hoped. We are still an openly violent and stupid species and when left to our own freedoms we still love us the strong man to make war and strike at our enemies. We still feel that background rage of a savage animal in a savage world and we still fear and loathe all that we cannot count as Us.
The pendulum has swung in what many of us consider to be away from the humanist progress we once saw on the distant horizon; our utopian fantasies of what a free and prosperous society could achieve. Such swings toward greed are not sudden (Reagan) and last right up to the present … and generations beyond. At this point the hate/fear/greed appears to control a major share of our population. The enlightenment is still many decades of hard struggle away.
Apologies to you young ones. We tried. We failed. Maybe, if there is enough left, your kids and grandkids can put us back on track. Until then we have to survive the rise of the animal, again.

Re: It's Going to be a Wild Ride
I thought his choices the first time were concerning. Now four years later his choices have devolved into friggin scary. But, this is what the people voted for. This is what our society produced from our election and no one is claiming any major (or even minor) fraud.
The talking heads, the analysts, psychologists, historians, pundits all, have their reasoning for what trickery, what undue influences, what bigotry led to this outcome. The one thing to keep in mind is that this is what our system, by law, produced.
We can do better.
We are well past this constitution's "use by" date. The problem is the Republican minority controls the process of governance and that includes both the amendment and national convention processes. They, of course, would hijack the processes to enshrine their agenda, including their religious and sexual demands, into any new proposed constitution. We need to wait for the social pendulum to swing back the humanist way before we attempt such a task.
Maybe the deep state will help keep damage to a minimum. Maybe the republican old guard can keep a lid on the Pandora's box of individual freedom. I hope so.

Maybe you could take them somewhere they'd be welcome, like Truth Social.
Or here, maybe. He can express his prejudices right here ... where we can throw rotten tomatoes and mud balls at him. We do need the entertainment.

Re: It's Going to be a Wild Ride
Maybe a Trump supporter can tell us whether this approach to governance is what they actually thought they were voting for.
I'm thinking if they could think that deeply they wouldn't have voted for Trump in the first place. Trump can do no wrong and that is where the thinking seems to stop.

And now the clowns are running the circus while the chief law enforcement officer dodges arrows after a career as an open, rather careless and arrogant, pedophile.
Such class and wisdom Trump brings to our diminished stature in the eyes of a very dangerous world. Only the best people indeed.

Re: Trump tests limits of presidential powers with contentious first week
Although massively unconstitutional, the one thing I can philosophically get behind the elimination of birthright citizenship.
Citizen status is not forced upon you but offered to you. It's like a ball cap marked "Citizen" that, if you want, you have to pick up and put on your head. Until a person can decide to reject the hat or put it on it is assumed to be folded into a back hip pocket.
The point is you are granted access to the hat (and the decision) by virtue of the blessed anointment of your birth upon a most worthy ground. You were born in the land of free. That is unique in this world. Put your hat on, pay your taxes, shut the fuck up and be free. If you want.
As for the mother on the goal line, you should know the rules by now. As the refs fire up their quanum calipers and attempt to measure from replay both the position and brightness of each pixel, if she touches any part of the line, she's in.

Re: More About Trump and Covid
You keep looking for emotion laden responses. Political judgement calls. Unless specifically programmed to mimic a political stance, I don't see Chat as having the ability to take any such stands.
You're the techie here, not me, but from what I've studied (hit and miss) about LLMs and other machine learning models I'm skeptical that Chat can perform as you seem to expect unless you brute force a political personality into your instructions. The same way you did when we all had fun growing creationist and anti-theist monsters from Chat v1.
We're living in an autocracy where the current president believes he has absolute power.
Toasters don't have the ability to comprehend. I don't think Chat has any way to relate. The algorithm was not pre-weighted to bend its responses more toward the political/emotional tone you were asking. Remember, Percy, the algorithm that weighs the responses produces a number code for a word, not a thought.
I think your expectations may be pushing the boy a little hard. He's just a baby.
[ABE]
Case in point just above.
If evidence supports the claim of justice system weaponization, then policy reforms and increased transparency will be necessary to restore public confidence.
Hasn't a clue.

It's truly obnoxious and it's going to end badly.
Hey, remember climate change? I'm the gloom and doom guy around here. Get off my lawn!
He's been captured and Europe is in turmoil - Germany literally doesn't know what to do, decades of being allies torn up by a traitorous, pig-ignorant clown. Musk interfering with their elections by stirring up the far right etc.
Tangle, I read you, I read others around the net and I just cry. Real cry. Tissues, tears, nose, the works, all for the broken promise of what we had, what we should have been. And, yeah, unfortunately, things are going to get so very much worse.
God, we are brought low.

Re: Military Coup needed
Too damn far!
"If the "president" is one of those enemies, they can arrest him."
BS.
The Joint Chiefs have no powers to arrest anyone. Who makes that judgement? You? Me?
From there you are left with maybe some disgruntled generals and colonels attempting a coup as rogue elements, but not as the "US Military". Then loyalties, commands and forces split and there is civil war.
Remember, we've been here before (1861).
I'm thinking the best thing for the Joint Chiefs is to keep a clear distance from this and hope the rule of law may still prevail and settle things before war gets here. If there is another massing of Army Trump to storm the Capital (for some stupid reason since they already own the place) then direct military action may be warranted. But this is DOMESTIC American politics (regardless of the international effects) with our "rule of law" ethos in full operation.
The American experiment with self rule and constitutional law is not yet dead. Keep your coup off my lawn!
