He does not want a debate. He wants to preach and show he is all in on the cult. It is our responsibility to call out the stupid. If you disagree that is too bad.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence. -Christopher Hitchens

"God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up, why would you have to lie?

The Road Not Taken
Yeah, but we can be less caustic about it. Spitting at him, as I did in one of my less glamorous posts, is not appropriate. The man has body, blood and brain problems. There but for the grace of god ... and like that.
Those dreams of helping him cross the Hitchens Bridge are not abandoned. Just fading fast and steeped in sad. My brother is failing at real life and needs what little sympathy I may have left.

I don't mind calling out someones stupidity, that's not really the point here. Like I said, I'm against the vitriol. This is a place to discuss things, differing points of view. But it does need to have a direction. If the direction is, be as harsh as possible, what is the goal there?
What are you trying to accomplish with that, seeing as it's only going to get you more resistance and it'll be a back and forth, digging him deeper into his views. So at that point, why even bother?
Also, I'll let him tell me if he wants a debate or not. I've never done a great debate and I actually think he'd be up for it, it'd be a nicer way to deal with one point at a time, instead of the chaos that's been going on here lately. But that's for him to accept or not.
Again, I'm not saying I disagree with the substance of all that's been said, just the way it's been said.

Percy writes in Message 1439:
The personality/attitude change is so dramatic that I believe diabetes has altered his brain.
I don't doubt that diabetes is part of the explanation. But I suspect that religion is another part.
If you look at the alternative names (the "aka" list for Phat) you will get a strong impression that religion is very important to him.
He was a nice guy when his religious group was telling him to be a nice guy. But now his religious group is telling him to go MAGA.

Phat is not getting any worse than he has given. I don't profess to be holier than thou. I don't think that my way of life is the ideal or correct for everyone.

I still remember the nice guy that used to be inside, and the way I react to the dramatic change is to try to shock him back to normalcy with a dose of a very direct, harsh and honest criticism. It doesn't work. These days I try not to respond, but sometimes I can't help myself because he's become so harsh and critical himself.
I first noticed the change in April of 2019, but there were hints back in 2018 as he tried to learn about diabetes but was taken in by several sites with bad information.

Redirected To Phat Unplugged
Lets take this personal observation rabbit trail over here. Message 404
Comrade Kamala and Der Orange Fuhrer can be discussed here.
Percy writes:
So why try to be something you're not? Give up commenting on politics and start writing fiction.
As I am one of the few EvC members who has decided to vote against Harris and Tim Walsh, we can keep strict political talk here, but if you want to get personal and comment on my mental deficiencies take it to Phat Unplugged.

That's a message from you in this thread. How does it make any sense to "take this personal observation rabbit trail" over to a message?
You're issues color all your comments everywhere in all threads. If you make absurd comments about the election here then responses have to be here. And if your comments are absurd enough then that leads naturally to questioning why you're making them.
You feel the way you do because your brain is messed up. That's why you're unable to articulate any reasoning or enumerate any evidence for your positions. That's why you keep coming back to the same debunked arguments over and over again, like the gold standard or the coming financial collapse or the dollar ceasing to be the world's currency. That's why you maintain a blissful unawareness of the racist and bigoted nature of many of your comments - you just keep repeating them.
There were nine responses to your previous message, Message 1425, and you've responded to none of them. You instead argue that we should ignore the elephant in the room.

My inclinations lean the same way, but I don't see how it's possible for Phat to stop "encouraging" us when he keeps saying things that force us to ask, "How could anyone in their right mind say such a thing? How could he not see how crazy that is?"

Urban Correlation to Voting?
Is there a correlation between the percentage of a state's population that lives in urban areas and how the state votes electorally? One would think so, and this information based upon data from Mapped: How Much of Each U.S. State’s Population Lives in Cities confirms it. The higher the percentage of a state's population that resides in urban areas, the more likely it was to go for Biden in the last election. Of course the reverse is also true: the lower the percentage the more likely it was to go for Trump:

Now you're referencing a link to one of my messages? Did you perhaps mean Message 405, which didn't exist at the time you originally tried to reference it.
I post purely election-related information here on a regular basis. So do other people. Why don't you try responding to some of that, in a non-crazy way, of course, which means no more bald declarations of "the sky is falling" nonsense. If you're going to go in that direction then back it up with facts and supporting arguments. Let's have no more of this (paraphrasing) "You'll see I'm right someday."

The off topic here goes elsewhere, then the off topic there comes back to here
Percy writes:
And, not speaking for others, I have not chosen Harris over Trump. I have chosen "anyone who is sane and values democracy and hasn't committed fraud or rape or theft and isn't a racist" over Trump. Even Brian Kemp or Ron DeSantis would be better candidates then Trump. Trump would only be the better candidate if he were running against Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Green, George Santos, Samuel Alito or Clarence Thomas. Message 408
I've been pondering who could be considered "worse than Trump". Yours is a good list, except you forgot Lauren Boebert. But I think that list would rather be different variations of terrible. And I don't think the MAGAt cult would follow/support any of them like they do Trump. When you have a bizarre circus, you need a evil clown ringmaster running the show. So I must stick with Trump as being the worst possible.
My MAGAt slogan would be:
"Go to the circus, join the circus, vote for the evil clown ringmaster".
