Picayune Gods & Those Who Market Them

I would never use a broad brush to paint these groups. I would need to judge these comparisons on a person by person basis.I have interacted with believers who can intelligently discuss topics like Epicurus' Trilemma or the Problem of Suffering. They are quite smart people. I don't think they are any less in touch with reality than I am. They will even admit that their belief is based on personal experience and faith instead of the crap poor apologetics that we sometimes see. I have come across many believers that I have great respect for. None of us are infallible, including myself, so I certainly don't fault people for being human.What I look for is honesty. What frustrates us is when people throw out honesty in the name of protecting an ideology or belief.

They are controlled. Republicans had control of both the White House and Congress, and they never did that. Go figure. The strength of the military never changed during his term. Put more food on the tables of the rich so there can be a few more crumbs that fall down for the rest of us??? Seriously??? All they did was prime the pump that pushed wealth up to the rich.

Then explain how we would be better off without:1. Medicare
2. Social Security
3. Public Schools
4. Public highways
5. Publicly funded police and fire departments

All of those systems are socialism. The US is already socialist, and nearly every conservative likes those socialist systems.How would your run-of-the-mill blue collar conservative voter think of the eradication of public schools? What if they had to spend 10's of thousands dollars a year to send all of their kids to private schools? Should we not offer schooling equally to all children?What would your run-of-the-mill senior citizen conservative voter think of getting rid of their socialist pension and socialist health care? What if they had to spend 10's of thousands of dollars a year on private health insurance whose premiums would be multiples of that paid by younger people? How would they afford these premiums without help from their socialist pensions?It sure would be interesting if people who claimed they were against socialism lost all of their access to those socialist systems.

Those limited socialist programs raise all boats with the same tide.

I'm a liberal and I don't think that. They are no different than anyone else. They take advantage of the system they were given. What we need to do is change the system, not the people.
