That obviously can’t be right as written. Sounds like you’re counting Kansas and other Midwestern States as being East of Kansas which doesn’t make sense. There should be a substantial chunk of population that aren’t East or West of Kansas (such as those actually living IN Kansas).(From my reading about 24% of US Population is West of Kansas, with 12% in California)

I was going to say that it shows a higher light density in Alberta than in Ontario, which is backwards.I would suggest that the picture is more indicative of how close together the light sources are, two points close together not being resolvable.
