Re: A huge list of insurrection defendants (justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases)
So far, so good. But we would like to see some charges against the instigators.

Re: Cassidy Hutchinson Testifies Before the January 6th Committee
Is this enough to end Trump's hopes of retaking the presidency?
No, it isn't.
We are dealing with a cult. And cults do not act rationally.

Re: Barr Pipes Up
Barr may be more concerned about whether Barr can be prosecuted. Any statement that he makes could be self-serving.

You are very gullible. You repeatedly fall for slick presentations.

Re: Willful Ignorance?
I watched the video. I agree with some of it.
Yes, our national debt is too high. I blame Republicans.
Yes, I agree that our supply lines are too fragile. I mostly blame Republicans, though Bill Clinton deserves some criticism there, too. Reliance on outsourcing is a bad idea. I have always seen it as a bad idea. Much of it comes from Reagan's "supply side economics".
The whole idea of outsourcing has been to cut costs, increase profits for the rich and fuck the poor. And by the way Phat, you count as one of the poor (relative to the very wealthy). Somehow the Republicans repeatedly persuade you to vote against your own best interests
The large national debt is mostly because Republicans keep cutting taxes when those taxes should have been used to pay down the debt.
If Republicans want smaller government, then they need to actually cut things. But they won't do that, because they know that the voters will throw them out of office if they do. So, instead, they cynically cut taxes in an attempt to force the Democrats to do the actual cutting of programs. This is never going to work.

So what then? What are our options?
I'm going to leave this to the judges.
This is my main legal question: are there any provisions for stripping an ex-President of his retirement benefits?
I don't know, but I would guess that congress could legislate that. This would be entirely appropriate, given what he did the Andrew McCabe. However, I don't expect that to happen.

Insurrection and the 14th amendment
marc9000 writes:
There is a world of difference between a question of someone's age versus the very subjective opinions on whether someone committed "insurrection" or not.
A few years ago, Trump was making a big deal out of claiming that Obama was not qualified to be president. So now some folk are saying that Trump is not qualified to be president.
As they say, what goes around comes around.
There does not seem to be any doubt that Trump participated in an unsuccessful insurrection. And the insurrection clause of the 14th amendment seems quite clear.
Personally, I would find it more satisfying for Trump to be rejected by the voters rather than for a court to decide this.
We both know that Colorado was not likely to vote for Trump anyway. So the court decision doesn't really affect anything. This is all a tempest in a teapot.

Re: Recent Trump Tweet
You must be wearing blinders.
Trump says and does outrageous things because he wants press coverage. That's his MO.
Yes, the press is biased. You see it as a left-wing bias, but it isn't that at all. I suspect that most people on the left would prefer it if Trump were largely ignored. The media have a bias toward entertainment values, and Trump is quite skillful at manipulating the press.

Thus far, we only seem to have allegations.
Instead of providing evidence on his own case, Roman is attacking the prosecutor. Isn't that almost the definition of "ad homonym"?
I'll wait to see what turns up.
