There's a big uptick in COVID infections. Parts of Japan has gone into lockdown, 30m are in lockdown in China, we're seeing increasing hospitalisations.
You Americans are only 35% fully vaccinated - it's coming your way again.

In a Progressive Radio program this morning (Stephanie Miller, Sirius XM) they discussed how China is having to go into lockdown. It appears to be the Omicron variant that we had just gone through that's hitting them now. They had been able to hold it back for a time with better measures against it, but it's breaking through. Denmark's situation appears to be the same what with most of them being vaccinated, so when they dropped other mitigation methods (masking, etc) they got another surge.
The idea they discussed was that because of all our COVIDiots we fell victim to Omicron much sooner and now we have higher rates of immunity against Omicron, so other parts of the world entering into Omicron-fueled surges should not affect us.
A caveat that occurs to me is the question of "what about sub-variant BA.2?" If we are pretty much cool with Omicron because of our COVIDiots, does that also include BA.2? Or is that still on the horizon for us?
ADDENDUM
Before someone pipes in with "I told you we don't need vaccines; NATURAL IMMUNITY RULES!", the problem was that our vaccines weren't as effective against Omicron so we saw a higher number of break-through infections. I think I might have had a break-through in mid-December in which I had a massive head cold for a couple days, more so than I used to in the past and lasting much shorter than in the past, plus I've had a persistent cough since then.

The problem at my age ...
When I have a doctor's appointment and they call to remind me they always go down a check list of symptoms and unfortunately, at age 79, the answer to almost all of them is "Yes".
Do you ache? Yes.
Do you have cold symptoms? Yes
Do you _____ ? Yes.
I'm old.
I ache.
I'm allergic to anything that is alive, was alive, was once nearly alive, was once near something that was alive, that might at some future date become alive ...
I have headaches.
I get chills.
I get hot.
I forget why I came in that room or why there is a note listing possible reasons I entered the room pinned to the door.

China's getting hit with the BA.2 subvariant of omicron. We're around only 11% BA.2, though there are other estimates that place it higher.
Denmark's situation appears to be the same what with most of them being vaccinated, so when they dropped other mitigation methods (masking, etc) they got another surge.
Denmark's timing was unfortunate, dropping their constraints just as BA.2 was gearing up.
A caveat that occurs to me is the question of "what about sub-variant BA.2?" If we are pretty much cool with Omicron because of our COVIDiots, does that also include BA.2? Or is that still on the horizon for us?
Only a couple weeks ago BA.2 was around 4% of infections in the US, now it's nearly 11%. Danish scientists believe BA.2 is about 1.5 times more transmissible than BA.1. Immunity from BA.1 appears to provide roughly equivalent immunity to BA.2. Preliminary analyses of vaccine effectiveness against the two subvariants rate it as roughly equal, but it will soon be about six months since the booster shots. After that vaccine decay will begin to become evident.
The consensus that might be emerging is that covid will become endemic with at least annual booster shots necessary.
This might be a good time to mention again that infections and vaccines do not provide immunity. What they do is prime the body's immune system to fight off the next infection, should there be one, making it less likely that it will become full blown illness.

We are at 6 months since our boosters, but figure what kept us from getting it during the previous waves will keep working... isolation and masking. Curb side pickup for groceries has remained my wife's favorite mode.

2nd booster?
i hear that a second booster is going to be recommended for elderly people like me and others here.
that'll make it 4 total jabs.
is this like getting Windows updates every 6 months?

Curb side pickup for groceries has remained my wife's favorite mode.
But how much longer will that service continue? Early on and for a long time grocery stores offered a "seniors hour" at the beginning of the day where they either opened one hour early (eg, CostCo) or didn't allow young'uns (under 65) in for the first hour of regular hours (eg, Trader Joe's, Stater Bros). Then over time, especially after enough progress had been made with vaccination, those senior hours started going away. First they went to only certain days of the week and then finally they just got rid of it.
Offering such services is good for customer relations, but there's also a cost that needs to balance out.

Oh I hope not! You never know what's still going to work after the update (actually, version upgrades are the really scary ones).

Yeah, we may see a fee for curbside. I find that if I am at the store when they open I am the only customer. This usually a quick stop to pickup just a few items.
At Costco there are always 30 or 40 old people like me waiting. I can be in and out in 15 minutes and I only have to pick up things there once every 3 months or so. During the pandemic they dropped several of the products I liked to get there because of volume and price, so I have found those sizes online with free 1-2 day shipping.

Remember this is all based around the Bill Gates NanoBot chip that was initially injected. Periodic bug fixes and security enchantments are to be expected.

I've always just gone into the store even from the start, masked of course. I set aside an older pair of Dockers and an older polo-like shirt (being an engineer, I've always gotten the style with a pocket which polo shirts don't have; just don't know what the proper ones are called). I called that my EVA gear. In the beginning, upon returning from the store I would take them off and straight into the washing machine. Non-perishables I would set out in the garage to air-sanitize and I would wipe down the perishables with a chlorox wipe before putting them in the fridge. As time went by, I became more lax. But I didn't wear my levis for months in order to keep from washing them too often.
I didn't get sick until Jan 2021, just a couple weeks before I was eligible for my first shot so I had to postpone it as per my doctor's orders. Nine days of sleeping upright in a recliner and taking maximum dosages of Mucinex extra strength. Lost ten pounds which I slowly regained after recovering, so my net COVID weight gain was zero -- I've heard a lot of references to others' "COVID pounds" that they had gained from eating and staying indoors and now have to lose. And as I said, I think I had a two-day case of Omicron in mid-Dec which was mainly a bad head cold.
Oh and toilet paper. I get the big bundle at CostCo which lasts me about seven months. I still had about 2/3 of a bundle left when the shutdown started, so it was back in CostCo again when I needed to replenish. Took the longest time for yeast to show up in the grocery store, so I toyed with sourdough but didn't have a good feeling about my culture. I even looked into the German custom of Hefewasser ("yeast water") where you culture the natural yeast on the skin of dates or raisins but never got motivated to try it.
