Biden Our Time: All things Joe Biden

Trump is a hangnail compared to the US Civil War. Trump is the worst president in modern history, but there are much worse things than bad presidents. Trump is the distillation of the conservative zeitgeist. It's not so much what Biden has done as what Trump represents to a Republican party obsessed with tribalism and conspiracy theories. To put it in Canadian terms, why don't the Habs root for the Leafs?

Based solely on preventable deaths in the US over the last year:Failed response to coronavirus due to anti-science beliefs - 205,000 and counting.Failure to implement universal health care - at least 68,000 (according to the most recent figures provided by the Yale study).Failure to treat drug addiction as a medical rather than a criminal justice issue - approximately 30,000. Currently 72,000 die, largely due to personal misery caused by austerity. Some addicts are irredeemable, but I think from the experience of others around half can be successfully treated if dealt with humanely.Trump and his cult (all current Republican officeholders) are complicit in the deaths of around 300,000 U.S. citizens.Biden and his centrist supporters do not agree with medicare for all and consider drug addiction a moral failing which can only be addressed through incarceration.So, the conclusion is:Voting for Trump means 300,000 deaths.
Voting for Biden means 100,000 deaths.Unfortunately the majority rejected Sanders, who supported zero unnecessary deaths. That is what I support, and that is how I vote when given the chance.I am voting for Biden, not because I support him, but for reasons of simple harm reduction.If you believe in potentially saving 200,000 lives annually, you may want to consider voting for Biden as well.

It's settled. We have a cartoon character running this country.That 9/29/2020 'debate' was an utter farce. Trump was even more Trump than usual (which is saying a lot), but his antics and continued interruptions just turned the whole thing into a sideshow. Wallace lost control pretty early on and didn't really quite recover.Biden at least demonstrated that he could handle a 90 minute debate without issue. So I am hoping all those hyperbole attacks on him being senile will go away. But I wish he had been a little more forceful in his responses. He is generally soft spoken. But when you are dealing with a blowhard like Trump, it makes sense to be a little more vocal.I have no idea how the next debate will turn out, but they need some better mechanism to keep the interruptions to a minimum. Not sure how to a achieve that. Maybe put both candidates in glass enclosures like they did in that TV Game Show 'Quiz Show'. Although knowing Trump, he would just bang on the glass and make faces, like the moronic gorilla that he is.

Seriously folks, is there any doubt left? Can any sane aware American continue to support Trump?

Heard some one on the radio quote someone about the debacle that was the 'debate', never play chess with a pigeon, it pushes all the pieces over and runs about claiming victory.

The version of that quote that I've encountered says:

Apparently, Trump was once told about Desmond Morris' 1969 book, The Human Zoo, and its rules for a baboon king.Malcolm Nance pointed out this morning that Trump wasn't there to debate, but rather to deliver his stump speech. In that conversation, the host suggested that the next debate should be moderated either by SCPO Nance or by Samuel L. Jackson. Or perhaps by Matt Dillahunty (Atheist Experience) who has years of experience hitting the mute button to get a word in edgewise with a caller who's suffering from the Gallopin' Gish oral diarrhea disorder that Trump was presenting symptoms of.And while some have suggested a mute switch for the microphones from here on out or even placing them in glass booths (at which point Trump would only bang on the glass and make faces -- {ABE: I just saw that was Diomedes in Message 258, though I did think about a kill switch for Trump's microphone last night and several on Facebook also brought up the same idea}), that cannot happen. The format and rules of the debate are negotiated with both sides and both sides must agree with all the rules. While watching the fiasco, I kept thinking that he should be fitted for a shock collar.

It should be far more orderly since it's the VP debate, which will be between two adults instead of last night's an adult and a spoiled six-year-old.But then the VP debate will probably be interrupted by one party losing his nerve when faced by a woman and start calling out for his "Mother".

It has been said that one should not mistake stupidity for malfeasance. However, when Trump is concerned we should never mistake malfeasance for stupidity. His gross misconduct last night was deliberate and for a purpose. And it failed.As stupid and incompetent as Trump is, he does have a genius for a few things. Such as finding an opponent's weakness and exploiting it. Biden grew up with a bad stutter, which he has learned to control through years of effort -- remember during the Democratic Convention when he helped a boy overcome his own stutter and that boy was then able to give a speech for the convention.That is the weakness that Trump sought to exploit. Through his constant bullying he wanted to bring Biden's stuttering out in order to make him appear as a stammering fool. That failed.

Trump says Biden should be locked up. Chant changes to "Lock him up!".Trump understands his supporters are not bright enough to master a whole NEW chant.
