Re: The Sociological Implications Of Corvid-19
The British tend to call public toilets the "convenience".
Born and raised in Britain, spent the first 21 years of my life there. I have never once heard someone refer to toilets as 'the convenience'. Maybe it's an old fashioned thing, but I haven't heard old people say it either.
On a wholly separate topic, can an admin please fix the typo in the thread title? I keep thinking it's got something to do with crows.

Re: Hand Sanitizers
COVID-19 is a virus. Antibacterial hand sanitizers WILL NOT work on viruses. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers WILL work on both bacterias and viruses.
Well, most bacteria and viruses. Viruses which lack a lipid envelope are quite resilient in the face of alcohol based sanitisers; as are some bacteria when they form resting spores.
This is irrelevant as regards coronavirus, I'm just nitpicking as usual.

Re: A political side to it
Keep hearing about the Swine Flu epidemic that hit from 2009-10. I don't remember any hubbub about it at the time, but 60 million Americans got it, 500 million worldwide, I think it was 17 thousand Americans died of it.
I'm assuming this is some kind of script on US right wing radio right now? I keep hearing people say the same thing on the internet now. But the hubbub over the swine flu epidemic was huge. Afterwards there was a lot of soul searching over why the overreaction.

Re: A political side to it
If the hubbub over the swine flu was so huge it's funny I don't remember it.
Indeed.
A thousand people had died before Obama did anything about it, and 18,000 by the time it was over. 60 million were infected. Some hubbub might have been in order under those circumstances.
Put like that, we should be in a state of constant panic. Most estimates suggest there were not any more deaths due to flu in 2009 than in a typical year.
I agree that much of the reaction to this virus is over-the-top.
