Pretty simple. It was a way to invalidate his candidacy back then. If it could be proven that he was in fact Kenyan and not a naturalized American, as is a Constitutional provision to be eligible for POTUS, then he would immediately be taken out of the White House.Why it's still a source of contention is a better question... because his presidency is long over. Short of a time machine I don't see the point in arguing over it any longer.

Then Ted Cruz would not have been a naturalized American because he was born in Canada. So why in the world did the Republicans let him run in the Republican primaries?The actual law says that you are a naturalized American if one of your parents was born in the US. Since Obama's mother was born in the US . . .

Uh, what? Obama is not and never has been a naturalized citizen, because he is a natural born citizen. A naturalized citizen was not born a citizen, but rather had to apply for citizenship and go through the naturalization process to become naturalized.In Article II, Section 1, The Constitution states:

A naturalized citizen would be ineligible to be President. Obama, like Cruz, was born to an American citizen (the mother in both cases), which qualifies both of them as natural born citizens. Cruz was born in a foreign country, but that does not change the fact that he's a natural born citizen; that's not even a question regarding Obama, since he was born in Hawaii and hence in the USA.The only purpose that birtherism served was to rile up racial hatred against Obama, especially among the rubes who didn't realize that it made no difference and who didn't care. The only reason why it's still around is because the Right needs to keep the hate and the fake outrage stirred up.

The Left's imputation of motivations to the Right is forever wrong and incendiary. I have no motivation whatever except having been convinced that he was in fact born in Kenya, which is furthered by the Left's crazy ways of responding to the idea. If there is any other kind of motivation, having to do with objections to Obama, it's not racial, it's ideological. I didn't want the man to be President because of his beliefs, nothing to do with his race. Wish you guys could get that much straight. What in the world does being born in Kenya have to do with ideologies? Being born in Kenya would not have stopped him from being President because his mother was an American citizen. So why the obsession with Obama's place of birth?

Let's say that Obama said from the very start that he was born in Kenya? Then what? He could still run for President and take the oath of office. He still fulfills all of the constitutional qualifications because he was a naturalized citizen due to his mother being born in the US.So why keep pushing this?

Plus he already served 8 years as President and he is now out of office more than 2 years. What the fuck is she going to do, impeach him?
