...just no clue to how he appealed to so many of us. And still does. I already told you how he appeals to you. He tells you what you want to hear. People like you love talk of walls that we make Mexico pay for and of getting tough with immigrants who are only at our doorstep because of intolerable conditions in their own home state, and getting tough with our allies who aren't paying their fair share for defense, and getting tough with our trading partners who have been playing us for fools for years, and getting tough with our enemies like Russia - whoops, scratch that last part, that isn't happening. You love being told you're going to win so much you're going to get tired of winning. When are you going to wake up and realize you're being scammed by a raconteur/entertainer/reality show host/scumbag real estate developer/Russian colluder/racist/misogynist/homophobic/egomaniac/liar who is not, by and large, implementing conservative policies. He's implementing policies that help his friends, the fellow rich. To that end he's giving us our first trillion dollar deficits for as far as the eye can see, and to pay for them he will be seeking to downsize government, especially entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare, programs I'm sure your very familiar with. Yeah, just gotta love that Trump appeal! --Percy Edited by Percy, : Typo.

It is really hard to believe that there are so many US citizens who are so totally disconnected from reality, critical thinking, evidence based decision making, honesty and morality. The subject has been discussed in the past and some of us kept saying that a Trump win was a very likely outcome (see Message 187 in the thread Yes, The Real The New Awesome Primary Thread) but it's been a long time since "It can't happen here" was generally available. Trump though is really playing "Buzz" Windrip as well as any actor so far. The question now is whether that segment of US citizens who were so totally disconnected from reality, critical thinking, evidence based decision making, honesty and morality that they could vote for Trump is a permanent and persistent characteristic of US society today or simply a short term aberration and anomaly. And remember, we still have no clue how he appealed to so many of you other than you liked his sales spiel and vacuous promises. Edited by jar, : add link to earlier pre-election reference to It can't happen here.

I know enough to have an opinion, not enough to muster the evidence. You literally can't make this stuff up.

The more you trash the man the more those on my side just regroup against you. The man is human, with a sincere love of America that we don't see on the Left, and a sincere desire to "make America great again" which is far from the Left's thinking, and his ideas about how to do that might not be feasible but his desire to bring them about makes him a good guy.
If there hadn't been such a steep slide from old fashioned liberal Democrats to frank Marxist-Communist anti-Americanism since the sixties, we might not have had to be content with a flawed man like Trump. But he IS the only one who sees these things as we do. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

But America was already great by every possible evidential index.
It is only in the fantasy world unconnected to reality in anyway that there was any need to Make America Grate Again.

You can argue all you like, that isn't going to change how supporters of Trump see him.

Possibly correct, at least that is what he has claimed; that he could shoot someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and not lose one vote. But let's see what happens in reality instead of the fantasy world you seem to inhabit.

You can argue all you like, that isn't going to change how supporters of Trump see him. That's probably true. Trump's approval ratings, although the lowest of any US President since such a thing began to be measure in the 1930s, has gone up a little and down a little but overall has remained remarkably steady. That suggests that although Trump supporters are a minority, they're a hardcore fantatical group and probably aren't going to change their minds. Probably not even if Trump were to walk into their own homes and shoot their own children in front of them. Edited by Chiroptera, : Minor edit: didn't change the point.Oh, God! Keep up the politically correct character assassination and you just keep widening the political chasm. that kind of rhetoric has also been provoking the anti-Trump violence that is still happening.

See my comment above. You are just indulging in politically correct slander which does not serve the interests of anybody, let alone the nation.

You've already shown us what causes the political chasm. It's people who will not be moved no matter what. The rest of the world can not move forward without moving away from them. You've already shown us what causes the political chasm. It's people who will not be moved no matter what. The rest of the world can not move forward without moving away from them. One shouldn't move from the right position, and if progress means getting progressively wronger and wronger, which is the case on the Left, there is no hope for the country.

That assumes perfection. There's room for improvement in everybody, Trump, the Ku Trump Klan and even you. One shouldn't move from the right position.... Again. the chasm is caused by those of you who think you're already perfect refusing to change in any way.And our geese will blot out the sun.

You can argue all you like, that isn't going to change how supporters of Trump see him. Yep, your anti-reality shields are up and impenetrable. Trump loves money himself, and likes his immediate familty. And nobody and nothing else.
