"Natural" (plant-based) Health Solutions

For the record, my attempt this summer of getting onto a ketogenic, low carb diet succeeded for three weeks and then I relapsed. Im trying to find balance and sanity in my approach, yet feel that low carb is the solution for my body type and diabetic insulin resistance.Glad to see you back, by the way. I even read some of your online blogs and must say that you tell it as you see it! Hope you don't mind if I quote some of your blogs in my attempts to frame the YEC topic.Hopefully, you can find some peace in this diet topic and not have to become frustrated and typing in all caps! I'm going to get involved in the EvC debate for the first time since I joined here 14 years ago. Like you, my body is wearing out and betraying me. I need a diet that I can live with for life~!

I personally find nothing wrong with some of the alternative health solutions suggested by your sources. I think that the key is to be aware of reality rather than to place one's hope in some miracle cure, however.You said once that you hoped that reading up on some of these nutritional testimonies would perhaps inspire you to eat better, and I think this is a good thing. Your health should be up to you rather than to some Doctor, Nutritional Guru, or alternative "solution".

are you suggesting that regular arthritis is a "mechanical problem"? add by edit: Oh now I see. I guess my question now is why chemicals cant at least help you deal with the pain. I use one controversial substance after reading lots of information about it. It is called DMSO and the claims are that it has been thoroughly though not conclusively studied. I use it on my feet and ankles to improve circulation and reduce swelling. I can report that it works well for the said purpose. Lots of documented research and lots of testimonials, not that they carry any weight scientifically.Edited by Phat, : sub title

I read up a lot on this substance. It is hawked by quacks and doctors alike. There have been many studies done on it scientifically and the consensus seems to be that it is not dangerous...apart from sometimes causing a mild skin rash which goes away--EXCEPT concerning the issue of how it can draw any other substance into the body through its powerful absorbability. Its odd how we Biblical Christians seem to flock towards non FDA approved cures, isnt it? Buzz did it and Faith also does it. I myself occasionally latch onto a product despite it being alternative and unapproved, largely because of all that I read from a wide variety of sources.I challenge anyone to find literature that shows conclusively that DMSO is either

Ineffective or

Potentially Dangerous.

I looked up Vertigo also after reading jars post. Its not easy to treat and jar is not one to explore natural solutions...he will trust his medical doctors...but hopefully science will find a way to help

Poor cats! That does seem primitive. Your opinion is never worthless. The better you attempt to express it the more your reason capacity will evolve. I think that your issue has more to do with the monopoly from Western European interpretations of Christianity vs the minority groups which you find fascinating.This topic is more focused on whether plant-based solutions are any more worthy than mainstream medicine. Personally, I suspect that Big Pharma is itself evil...though we have never discussed why.

Here is a prime example of a substance with no known scientific basis, plenty of anecdotal testimony, and even a stint on 60 minutes, back in 1980:

Sometimes snake oil works... I have found results with the Willard water...besides it cant hurt me. At worst, Ive spent money on the placebo effect.

Many have testified that the water does something. They speak of better plant growth, calmer livestock and birds. Animals are a great control group as they dont understand what a placebo is, anyway.

While I trust your analysis, I question whether it is indeed a scam. They went before Congress in a hearing. Harry Reasoner gave them a favorable review. No claims have ever been made by the Doc nor his sons.... it's the people who use the product that tout its claims. And like I said before, at worst it is a harmless placebo. So my jury is still out on whether or not it is actually no better than ordinary water.
