The first thing I thought of is that it will help the Cubans more than the Americans. The Americans will gain yet another sunny clime to escape to, and they'll get the cigars, and they'll be able to divert some of their insane paranoia to Iraq and Afghanistan. But the Cubans will get access to a huge trading partner right on their doorstep. They already have one of the most accessible healthcare systems in the world (import THAT, USA); maybe now they'll be able to improve the quality.

I didn't want to put it quite that bluntly. I also didn't want to say that the Castro government is (one of) the best that Cuba has ever had because I don't know enough about Cuban history. I think I can say with confidence that the Casto government has been better than the gangsterism that it replaced.
