Destiny is a reality.

I propose this to be a part of the open debate section.Destiny, I believe, exists. But I also believe strongly that not everyone fulfills their destinies.Those who do decide to fulfill them, live a rich and meaningful life...

Interesting philosophy. Destiny exists(for all, I assume) yet not all fulfill their destiny.Are you a believer in any religions or basic philosophies or are you still forming your beliefs and world views?

You have to overcome a simple problem. I can merely say:"Destiny, I believe, doesn't exist"You now have to demonstrate empirically that it does.Secondly, how can a destiny that is unfulfilled be a destiny, and how would you know anyway?I wish you luck with this one.......

The thing about destiny is that you can point at any eventuallity of somebody's life and say "that was her destiny".I don't see how you can diferentiate between someone realising their destiny and not.How can one predict what one's destiny is?

This could be an interesting thread.Before this discussion can start, could you provide a short summary or definition of what you think the word destiny means and how you intend using the word in this thread?(Don't get me wrong. I don't plan to participate. I just need to know exactly what you mean when you use the word destiny. Hindsight bias - WikipediaOutside of books and Jedi films, when people use the phrase "Mr. Smith was destined for that" they are always talking about past events. They are looking back and claiming that they knew all along that Occurence X was going to to happen to Mr. Smith.

Always picking on Smiths ... it's like our destiny ... There are other problems ... like the post hoc ergo propter hoc logical fallacy and the problem of self-contradiction: So for some people their destiny is to not fulfill their destiny ... which they fulfill by not fulfilling it ...Enjoy

My belief was formed mostly from Western heroes such as Napoleon and Alexander. That, combined with my deep Christian devotion, made me believe that there is more to life than playing video games.

I think it is up to God and the person herself to decide or discover what her destiny is. Also, I define Destiny as the fulfillment of our purpose in life. Not as random occurrences.

As best I can tell, it doesn't mean anything.Based on the OP, it seems that "destiny" is defined as that which is bound to happen unless it doesn't happen.
