That view is known as Preterism and it is growing in popularity, but it's only one of about half a dozen different interpretations of end times prophecy, specifically the book of Revelation but also Thessalonians and others. I think Futurism is still the most popular view, which is basically Hal Lindsey's "Late Great Planet Earth" viewpoint, that focuses specifically on a future end times scenario with the Antichrist at the center of it and the Church raptured off the planet for the duration. I've recently heard that Idealism is another view that's growing in popularity, which treats much of the prophecy as symbolic and allegorical. I myself have been getting more persuaded lately to the view called Historicism, which is basically the view of the Protestant Reformers that prophecy is fulfilled in many events throughout history. If the Final False Prophet spoken of in Revelation 13 is indeed Pope Francis .. then I'm expecting all of the secular humanistic left / atheistic / false-religious-system / anti-christ / homosexual / and all the Biblical Harlot folk spoken about in Revelation 17 to glob-on to / applaud / accept and follow this guy .. He will literally rally them all together ...... My real point of observation will be IF & WHEN Pope Francis gets on the same page with and starts pointing to and singing the praises of a particular (RISING STAR) powerful political figure ........ time will tell Well, perhaps we could make a small wager on whether the Pope, that's the head of the Roman Catholic Church, will get many atheist followers, that would be people who don't believe in God. In the meantime, please tell me more about these "Biblical Harlot folk", I feel I could make common cause with them ... if you know what I mean.

That sounds a lot like your version of "being a child of God" and "just following scripture." I've heard of thousands of deluded worshippers saying the same thing. It most certainly is a great apostate ecclesiastical system. Although, in reality, they are not worshipping the devil and the beast... but that's more of a technicality because those things don't exist. No one, in reality, is worshipping the devil and the beast. So, what's the difference between your claimed style of worship and the Catholic claimed style of worship that makes you think they are providing the false prophet and not you?
