A group of Christians in Kansas is suing because teaching 'athestic evolution' is telling people of their faith that creationism is wrong.

Oh good, another opportunity for the deluded to make fools of themselves in public.
Sadly, I don't think this will get far enough to be properly entertaining, the judge will just chuck it out on the grounds that teaching science is not the same as teaching religion.Life, don't talk to me about life - Marvin the Paranoid Android |

Another example of the CCoI. They deserve our pity.
Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Pitying them does not mean we have to adopt their delusions or nonsense. We should give them an Inclusion Award that says something like "You tried really hard this time."

"Dangerously insane" depends on distance. Charles Manson was never much of a danger to me because he was so far away - he had plenty of victims closer by. How much pity can we afford to give to the dangerously insane? If Kansas produces fewer scientists, that's not necessarily a bad thing for the rest of us.

An Inclusion Award? For insisting on excluding themselves?
Seriously, this "give everyone an award to build up their self-esteem" thing has gone too far.

Well, their is little else we can do for them. You certainly can't hire them for any position that requires honesty or critical thinking, you can't vote for them and I doubt you'd want someone in your family to marry one.

We should give them an Inclusion Award that says something like "You tried really hard this time." Having read their complaint, I'm not convinced they did. My prediction: a judge is going to use the word "conclusory" a lot.

Please don't just laugh at their complaint. It's not their fault that they have been taught that God doesn't want them to think, to learn or to have moved out of the social system of 2000 years ago. Pity them; if you are religious and not a member of the CCoI, pray for them; treat them kindly and try to help them set up their own society where they can have their own school system so there are jobs for some of them and their kids can avoid learning anything factual, their own radio and TV and internet search engines so they are never assailed by truth, honesty or reality, even help them set up their own communities where the can practice "Christian politics" have "Christian Laws" and "Biblical justice".

Pitying them does not mean we have to adopt their delusions or nonsense. We should give them an Inclusion Award that says something like "You tried really hard this time." I don't pity people who murder doctors in the name of their religion. I don't pity people who deny basic human rights to others in the name of their religion. Some people deserve pity. Some people deserve shame, scorn, and shackles. Which group these particular religious fundamentalists happen to belong to remains unclear to me. Though I'd probably think at least a little of both. That's fine but as a Christian I must pity them and see them as severely deprived and handicapped. They are "Special" and have special needs.

Folks can have whatever weird beliefs they want. They can rub blue mud in their navels every Thursday at sunset, and I don't care.
But the minute they try to force those weird beliefs on others, that's a different situation. And that includes children. Fundamentalists who practice faith healing rightfully should be charged with child abuse, and if a child dies because of their practices, then they should be charged with manslaughter or homicide, whichever fits the case. To misquote one of our great pessimistic philosophers, "Religion is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards."Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.
