In retrospect it may seem short-sighted but the American colonies were a minor sideshow compared to the perpetual war with France. You might compare the situation with Britain withdrawing from the Channel Islands in WW2.Of course, you ran out of whoop ass in 1812 when a handful of Canadians sent you packing.

Pity. Living in Western New York where many of the major battles happened, the history was never taught in schools here in any detail. Probably not surprising, america did try to invade Canada to annex it, not a very nice part of history to remember.

hey Stiles,The bicentennial of the war of 1812 has been promoted pretty heavily in Ontario (not so much in western new york). Niagara Parks is/has been planning special events. Just wondering if you have been to any of the historical sites?:Fort George, Old Fort Erie, Navy Hall, Brock's Monument, Laura Secord Homestead and MacKenzie Printery, various battle fields, and battle routes.Going off topic, so I won't continue asking about this.
