Re: A rant in reaction to the typical feel-good solutions
59% of all homicides in 2001 in Los Angeles and
53% in Chicago were gang related, there was a total of 698 gang related homicides in those two cities combined whereas 130 other cities
So if I read this correctly, taking legally held (i.e. non-gang member held) guns out of circulation could potentially prevent 41% of all homicides in LA and 47% in Chicago?
even if we say a good proportion of those left were say, by the police, a drop in homicides of the order of 10% or more has to a be a good thing no?
So the primary problem is not a few mass-killings by nut-cases, but in larger part is a Balkanism/tribalism that is developing in many inner cities for socio-economic and other related reasons.
But the solution is not just to focus on the PRIMARY problem, it is to focus on all contributing factors.
Gangs are likely to get hold of guns, although most probobly fewer of them if guns not "Legally" available. But the remaining gun deaths due to legally held weapons will not occur. Why is that a bad thing?

So in the absence of some sort of Utopian society where all social issues have been resolved it makes sense to reduce the availability of such weapons doesn't it?
Nail. Head. Hit.

Re: so outlaw magazines\clips for loading ammunition
Just as soon as you change the constitution. But not until
You are familiar with the meaning of the word "Amendment" aren't you?
