Re: Mike the wiz?
Hi Tony, only just noticed your message. Good to hear you again and I think your post was very good. Some good correct hit-terms concerning Buzsaw would be, "kindness", "noble" and "sincere".
I myself don't debate any more for several reasons.
- My own inability to switch off compuslive thoughts, that are fed by debating people (mainly). (not nice. ) --OCD--

Buz Light beer
Just reading some of the other members comments. I was thinking along similar lines to you - for example, does "mike the wiz" exist?
I would say, MOSTLY - no, except here at EvC. Mostly, although I say things I mean, etc.... is it really an honest portrayal of who I am? I would say it is an extremely condensed parody of who I am with no inhibitions. It is perhaps the mad man in me, if left to roam free, unchecked.
For example, in real life, would I argue with an atheist? No, because if an atheist was in the process of killing me I would in all likelyhood offer him a cup of tea.
You see my point with the silly example. Although people like me and Buz are pretty much hated here, a lot of that bad feeling is based on something that is perhaps only an effigy of us. Ultimately you hate what we stand for, but what we truly stand for is not what you really would hate.
Why would we throw ourselves into a lion's den? We know they will try and rip us apart. Ultimately I think people are worth it, even if it costs, "self".
People like Buz don't give up because ultimately he believed that there was a message of hope that was worth trying to put across, even to his own torment.
I think Buz would thank Percy for his time at EvC. I myself thank Percy. I joined EvC as a 22 year old who had never thought in his life, I actually didn't know I could think - I had been dependent on school teachers and "bosses" telling me what to do. So places like this were a kind of blank canvas to me. A canvas my ass was greeted with face to face pretty often, and rightly so. (I know, it's a neat little equivocation with the term, "canvas" but I wouldn't know what "equivocation" was if I had not come to EvC).
This forum switched my brain on, and said, "no- you also have a brain, you thought you had no brain, scarecrow, which is why you called yourself "wiz" as a sarcasm, to put yourself down - but God can use grey worthless clay, TOO."
I know, I know, I will still be hated, but as Dumbledore said, people find it easier to forgive people for being wrong than they do to forgive them for being right.
(This post is light-hearted, or at least, intended to be.)

I engaged in reductio ad absurdum at the request of my disfunctional compulsive contaminatrix that regurgitates anomolous fallacious recognition processes in random bouts of severe over-thought, thereby contained via the irrefutability cells in my left hemisphere. ~ mike the wiz

And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
I guess you know the whole truth now, Buzz. And exult in blessed freedom.
See you.

Was busy these weeks, so I didn't pay my respects yet.
I didn't interact that much with Buz. Maybe.. once or so? I read a lot his posts in the older topics though.
In the months in which I read most of the posts, he remained on friendly terms in spite of radical views and his defiance of his blocking on the science forum. And after his death, seeing so much positive reactions pouring out of 8 years of debating leaves a strong impression on me.
This reminds me though.. It's sentimental, but one of the first things that came to mind when I heard the news. Maybe it has been said already and I missed it, but..
I would propose to restore his accounts access to the science forums. It's completely irrational, but.. I just find it fitting.

Buz and I disagreed on a few things but on the important things we agreed.
My prayers go up for the family hoping they will realize they will soon be reunited.
See you soon Buz

Thanks for posting this DA, (my ole arch nemesis) that is a beautiful and neutral quote that kinda bridges the gap between the opposing forces here at this website
Thanks Dawn (I like the arch nemesis part). I don't consider anyone here my enemy, ideological and philosophical adversaries maybe, enemies definately not . Life is too short to have enemies (except mass murderers, terrorist and hard core criminals). I only see people like Buz and others of like minds; souls fervently dedicated to their religious beliefs. Discussions, debates and the like on this forum are just ways for us to dig into the reality around us and to explore deep and ageless questions of humanity of why we are here and what caused the universe that exists around us. I believe we are all part of a brotherhood (and if you prefer sisterhood) of humanity seeking these answers; Buzz included. Just my thoughts.
BTW, I am not anti-religion, just pro-rationality. In honesty, I think religion and science can coexist as long as it is done logically and rationally. Take care.

Thanks for the answer, Asgara. It looks like he got the message.

Thanks for thinking of him.
That's ok. I suppose there is any number of older members I could have thought of but when I read the news, Mike was the first one that popped into my head.
I realize that my own absence from the forum may render my perspective a bit out-of-date, but of all the long-term posters who aren't around any more, Mike just struck me as having the most significant relationship with Buz. No offense intended to anyone else. I may be reading too much into it but, as two long-time members on the same side (mostly), I couldn't help but get a bit of a "Brothers in Arms" vibe from them.
Not that this is really relevant, I guess. I'm just glad that Mike got the message. Thanks for letting him know, Asgara, and for your answer to me.

Re: Mike the wiz?
Hi, Mike. Nice to hear from you again, too. And thank you for the compliment on my post. I'm glad you liked it.

I understand. I've never involved myself in the debating side of things. I've participated in discussions, but only to improve my understanding of subjects I'm interested in. In any case, it's generally not necessary because, in any given debate, someone usually says what I would have said before I'd even be able to type it out. There are plenty of people here, with far thicker skin than I, who can handle that side of it so I'm happy to let them. I get too emotional about things.
At any rate, I'm sorry to hear about your own difficulties regarding debating. I do hope that it doesn't drive you away altogether. Even if you don't want to debate any more, I hope you might still drop by once in a while, even if it's only to say hi or have a friendly chat with your old pals. Or hey... you could even take a page out of my book. I think there's something to be said for taking the "lurker" route. There's plenty of interesting discussion either way. You'd be surprised how much you can learn from it, even without being an active participant.
Anyway, I'm diverging too much here. To get back on track, I'm glad you got the message. I guess I shouldn't play favourites but I knew that you and Buz were friends. There are probably tons of people I could have mentioned. And, in fact, now that I think about it, another name does occur to me: Brad McFall. Mr Incomprehensible himself. Although, to be honest, I don't know if he and Buz were ever that close, and I may just be remembering Brad because he's one of the other people I used to talk to a bit. Well, I guess there isn't much that can be done. I'm sure I could think of plenty of old posters if I gave it some thought, but I suspected that you, in particular, would want to know.
Either way, I'm glad the word got through to you. Though I knew Buz through his posts, he didn't know me. And, as I said before, the news hit me harder than I would have expected. You, on the other hand, were actually close to him, so I have no doubt that this was harder for you than it was for me. For whatever it's worth, I'm sorry about the loss of your friend.

Buz and I had a fair rew run-ins. I've not been here for a little while and have just found out about Buz passing.
LET THIS BE A LESSON TO US ALL!!!
I never made my peace with Buz, but dear God, I know now just how much I liked him, admired him and respected him. I can NEVER tell him how sorry I am, it's too late.
Far too often we forget the person behind the post. We become unkind in what we say. We don't stop to think that it's another thinking, feeling human at the other end.
I'm heartbroken that I never made my peace with him. Dearest Buz, rest in the arms of the Lord.

You still have a chance with me and there is a reasonable chance that I may pass from this earth due to circumstances apart from EVC. I am going to counseling during the winter break while I visit my parents. With the right medicine, perhaps that day can be postponed at bit.

Me and Buz agreed on this!
Way back in February of this year, I posted a piece of music in the "Music that moves you" thread. Buz replied because he likedit so much and I'd like to post it in this thread. It's from the movie "Sunshine" directed by Danny Boyle and called simply Adagio in D Minor by John Murphy.
This is for Buz.

Tony, Hi - I don't visit EvC that much at all but just to say I have responded to your message in a private message, you might not log in and see the PM.
(Sorry if I don't get back to any PMs within a few weeks, due to business of my life with work, etc.. I will get back to people, if they message me.............eventually. )

Since when did a memorial thread to Buzsaw become all about foreveryoung? You need more than medicine. You need to stop making excuses. Buzsaw never did.
