Oh, I'd wondered. Phat, thanks for finding out and getting back to us.
Mark me as another who will miss our old friend, and is sending his best thoughts to his family at this time.

he always prayed for all of us and that he strongly believed that what he was doing was representing his faith and belief as he understood it. Thanks Buzsaw. Rest in Peace. Buzz was a force to be reckoned with on EvC as much as many of us disagreed with his views and even reasoning. For his tenacity, many of us of respected him.
The barbs and jabs we give and take here at EvC remind me of the back and forth ribbing of coworkers and friends in my work in the armed services. Even though we may not always get along with people at work or even in our own families, in time of crisis we are there for each other. I feel the same with acquaintances on EvC. We are all in a struggle as a human race whether religious or not and life is too short to get mad at each other for too long. Buzz, I am saddened you will no longer be with us. May your soul find peace.

When you're arguing with someone, it's sometimes easy to forget that they're a person rather than a collection of erroneous opinions. With Buz I think we got to know him sufficiently well that we didn't make that mistake: he was a person, with achievements and dreams and regrets like the rest of us, and he never tried to hide that fact like some do on the internet and pretend to be the oracular voice of truth speaking from a vacuum.
For that reason, although we knew him best in his role as a stubborn old curmudgeon, we all know that he was much more than that. I'm sure his family must feel a terrible loss, and for what my words are worth I would offer them my sympathy and best wishes.

Isn't it remarkable how your differences fade into insignificance?
Never could agree with Buz much but I always liked to read what he had to say. I think he had integrity and was an honest man from what I could tell. That adds up to a good man in my book. So long Buz.

Tears are streaming down my face as I read this thread. So, so sad.
Bye, Buz. You old coot. *hug* Gotta wipe my face now, and try not to weep.

Oh no.
What sad and heartbreaking news. While I hardly agreed with Buz on anything, I always liked him and respected him greatly. What's not to respect about a gentleman who knew where his heart and soul lay and was not afraid to speak his mind? My thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends.

Though our views were poles apart he always treated me respectfully. He offered me advice and support in regards to my fathers health many times. Dad died about a month ago, I hope Buzz knew how much his support meant to me.
In our thoughts he will live on, RIP Buzz.Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' ― Isaac Asimov "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Recently, it was pointed out (here and a couple of messages up-thread) that Buz had not posted in quite a while.
A few years ago (Oct. 2, 2009), Buz had e-mailed me regarding a "Who would you like to go out for a beer with?" type topic, which I haven't been able to track down. Anyway, part of what he wrote was:
quote: {Added by edit on March 13, 2013 - Someone recently bumped the relevant topic. This message is the one Buz was referring to.} In the process of exchanging e-mails, both our real world names were revealed. Having his name and knowing his general location gave me something to Google. Very little was found beyond the standard address and phone number that you can find for most anyone, but one item was something at findagrave.com. I found no online obituary. I posted my findings in the Private Admin Forum. Phat replied in the PAF that he also had e-mail correspondence with Buz, and his info meshed with what I had gathered. Phat then did the service of phoning and confirming Buz's death. I'm not going to give out Buz's name, but the information I gathered included that he was a veteran, Airman First Class, and that he died Sept. 9, 2012, just past his 77th birthday. {Per message 1, he died 1 day short of his birthday. My info may be a bit off} His most recent forum message was Aug. 22, 2012. We had the worlds slowest "Great Debate" going (What variety of creationist is Buzsaw? (Minnemooseus and Buzsaw only)). Started in June 2006 and last posted to in July 2012, it accumulated a whopping 83 messages (7 by members who shouldn't have been posting there ). My personal impression is that Buz was a really nice guy, albeit possibly "thick as a brick". But I really did like him. Or something like that. I may be conflating creationists, but I'm pretty sure it was Buz that was helpfully telling me (wrongly) what I could and couldn't do when I was brand new here whilst he himself was banned in several forums.
He lapsed into talking about himself in the 3rd person (always a bad sign) and then took upon himself the task of building a brand new taxonomy of species to suit his personal needs. (Without any concept of what that task may require and dropping it pretty quickly when he caught a glimpse.) He was utterly bonkers of course, but extremely endearing; eccentrics are becoming rarer; they're being replaced by fanatics - he and his 'kind' will be badly missed here. You've left a good impression with me. The thing is, even as I know you were wrong about some detail this or that, I know damn well that I too am wrong about some of the stuff I currently know to be right. Even if one or two of us can advise some others, or point out additional steps or bring the ball down the field; all of that hoopla doesn't mean diddly squat. It's mostly in the presentation. I had to learn that. And you knew that long before many of us did. In that presentation and representation you were pretty good, really good; especially considering your raw source. So I thank you.
It's too bad that I will never get the chance to meet you or see the funny real person side of you. Just as I'm sure you have done on your side of the world, I will carry on your good traditions here. Thank you for giving your best. Thank you kindly. Goodbye Buzsaw, Godspeed.

I haven't posted here in quite sometime, though I do come back semi-regularly to see what all is going on. I was saddened today, the read of Buzsaw's passing. While I do not post often, primarily because so many of you say "it" so much better than I could, the same cannot be said for Buzsaw. No one said it quite like he did, and I enjoyed reading most of the stuff he wrote. He will certainly be missed.

Buzzsaw was a fixture here. A familiar face, someone who made this board more colorful. Good bye Buzzsaw the place wont be the same without you.
