Whoever calls me ignorant shares my own opinion. Sorrowfully and tacitly I recognize my ignorance, when I consider how much I lack of what my mind in its craving for knowledge is sighing for... I console myself with the consideration that this belongs to our common nature. - Francesco Petrarca

Re: Spam Cleanup Completed
Some other forums require admin approval of a registration before posting privileges are established. I am not sure what you would check to determine if they are a spammer or not (maybe their profile entries?). Perhaps restricting new members in some way such as only allowing 1 or 2 posts prior to admin approval, or not allowing posting to proposed new topics or other less restricted forums such as "suggestions and questions" or "coffee house."
I don't know, maybe it doesn't happen enough to be a concern but that was a helluva mess this morning - 20 pages of spam!!! Thanks for doing all the work it took to clean up!
I also can't understand why this spammer would think that blasting the forum with hundreds of posts that we can't even read would tempt us to use whatever it was it he was selling

Regarding moderator decision
Percy, Regarding your moderator decision in Life - an Unequivicol Definition - Message 335
I completely agree that the discussion about continuums has gone on far too long and is rather pointless. Also agree that arguments based on strict dictionary definitions should be stopped.
However, I think your decision that the conclusion of the matter is that there is a continuum between life and non-life goes a bit too far. It seems to me that is the whole point AOk is trying to establish (although he has seemingly said contradictory things regarding that point). Perhaps the ruling should be that we all agree that there is a continuum between chemicals and biotic organisms so we can move past the discussion about continuums. However, what AOk needs to do is switch tactics and show that his proposed definition (in particular production of ATP) has some meaningful capacity to separate this continuum into two discrete categories: life and non-life (meaningful being the key word).

Re: Regarding moderator decision
Yea, OK. I get your point. AOk does not appear to really be interested in moving the discussion forward anyway, otherwise he would have done so when he had the opportunity.
