The "\w*" portion is regular expression speak for "all the alphanumeric characters that follow".
The censoring is rather easy to evade, but I wouldn't recommend it because I don't have any backup strategies beyond suspension.
I know some members greatly dislike the portion of the Forum Guidelines that require civility and courtesy, but that's the way it is. Besides, calling someone a liar (or whatever name) is easy, demonstrating it for all to see is the real challenge. No one said EvC Forum is easy. This place is an even bigger challenge for creationists who usually come to their religiously-based ideas through faith and then when they arrive here discover, rather bewilderingly to many, that the evidence for those beliefs is rather hard to come by.
When have I ever called someone an asshole, or said they should be shot, or called someone an *** or said they were *** or called someone a moron or ...

Actually, I usually find that quite easy.

I know you and Jar and Nuggin and others disagree, but once people get mad constructive discussion disappears, so the moderation policy here at EvC Forum is to discourage participation styles that tend to raise hackles.

You can call me or maybe Buz ignorant, although its not a very good advertisement for a forum that invites Biblical Creationists to debate. Its like calling a girl ugly when you are trying to organize a Homecoming dance! The whole idea is to make them feel welcome...not to publicly humiliate them. IMHO, anyway.

Far worse than ignorant is liar, unless one can, in the message, absolutely cite documentation that a deliberate lie has been posted. Liar is the most mean-spirited and judgmental attack towards a member that anyone can post. Two or three members resort to this attack with impunity.
Most of the meanspirited ****ing asterisks and lie charges are directed at minority creationist members by the few who apply them .
With all due respect, AdminSlev has had zero influence so as to afford some balance in moderation. Admin Purple and Adminnemooseous, however have, imo, been the most help in that regard.
