Re: Branford Marsalis...best sax player ever
Branford Marsalis is a very good saxophonist and a fine jazzman, but tagging any individual with the title "best sax player ever" is pretty dicey.
Best living saxophonist? Sonny Rollins is still alive and as far as I know still productive, although he has extremely high personal standards to live up to - You know, such as having recorded Saxophone Colossus back in 1956. He was also the uncredited (on the album notes) saxophonist on the Rolling Stones' "Waiting For a Friend". I did hear Sonny live once, back in the mid 80's.
Sonny Rollins - St. Thomas, from Saxophone Colossus:
By the way - It's my impression, that the St. Thomas melody is at the roots of Bob Marley's "One Love". Try to think what St. Thomas would sound like if it was slowed down considerably (at least to half the tempo?).
Another still living saxophonist, and one of the great jazz innovators, is Ornette Coleman. I also heard him live once, back in the mid 80's, in the context of his "Prime Time" group.
Supposedly Ornette and Cecil Taylor once attended a Grateful Dead concert together. The story is that they were much more impressed with the spirit of the deadheads than with the band itself. It would have really been something for them to have sat in with the band. Heck, I'd love to hear Ornette and Cecil duet, although I don't know if they would be compatible.
The only recorded snippet of Branford with the Dead that I have is on the "Infrared Roses" thing, which I haven't listened to in ages. Considering the mass of live recordings that have been officially released, there must be more available. I'd also love to hear the jams of the members of the Dead and the Allman Brothers playing together.

Richard & Linda Thompson - Walking on a Wire
Somewhere back in the 90's I decided this was my favorite tune - It still is.
The first version below is a live version - The sound quality isn't that good.
The second version is the album version of off "Shoot Out the Lights".
My opinion - Richard Thompson is the greatest combination of songwriter/singer/guitarist.

Real Bop - Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker - Koko
I'd like to see someone dance to this.

Bop - Bebop - Hard Bop
I was considering bop=bebop. I've never been a big bebop fan - I like more open space in my jazz, not the Gillespie/Parker school of "how many notes can you fit in a bar" (and Koko is there). Although the do like the John Coltrane "sheets of notes" thing (which isn't bebop).
But then there was Thelonious Monk - He more or less had a school of his own, and I love it. The mainstream bopers thought his music was weird (or something), at least at first. I presume you're familiar with Monk's "Brilliant Corners"? The story goes that at the original recording, they did something like 28 takes and never could get it right. They had to patch parts of takes together to get the final version.
Speaking of Monk, have you heard Cecil Taylor's version of Bemsha Swing? It's on Taylor's first (I believe) album, "Jazz Advance". It was issued or at least reissued on Blue Note.
I am a fan of bebop's decedent, hard bop. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers are wonderful.
Of course, the division between bebop and hard bop is fuzzy.
So, does the 3 pigs thing qualify as bop? I would tend to file it under swing.

Plugging my radio show
For anyone who might care:
It starts at 10:00 pm (U.S. central time) tonight, Saturday, 10/29. For you of far off time zones, that's about 8 hours and 10 minutes from now. I do that time-slot only the last Saturday of the month.
This is a playlist for the show (assuming I got the link correct). You probably won't be able to see it prior to show time:
http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/kumd/guide.guidemain?ac...
If that doesn't work, there will be audio and playlist links at Site not found · DreamHost.
A variety of audio links are at Site not found · DreamHost.

I'm the Slime
That must be a later reunion concert - Both Little Steven and Nils Lofgren.
My reply (not a commentary on Bruce):
About a week ago, I saw this for the first time since seeing the original broadcast back in 1976.
I'd like to see this run as some sort of political advertisement commentary advertisement (or something like that).

Moose on the radio Wednesday 6/20
The Fun House Program.
No real plan yet, but I'm looking to present a 30 minute version of Frank Zappa's "Billy The Mountain". I previous noted where all the profanity is, now I need to do an edited (HONK) version.
Site not found · DreamHost - The audio feed and play list links should be available there, at that time.
Show starts at 7:00 pm (US central time) tomorrow. For time zone adjustments, that's about 23 hours and 40 minutes (24 hours minus 20 minutes) from now.
Now something of the Fun House nature:
Source.
which I got from here,
which I was guided to via comment 1 here.

There had to be a "Bart Simpson" somewhere in the Welk organization. The question is, how many of the organization were in on the joke. Was Lawrence in on the joke?

Lawrence Welk does "One Toke Over the Line" (and more)
In a fit of boredom I did a bit more research on "One Toke Over the Line". That led me to this page. Reading through the comments (recommended) I found some Welk that might be even weirder:
