Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
If your claim is evidence free
Then I will view it atheistically
Nothing for it
Then I'll adore it
As that which was created imaginatively
Always been agnostic re where things come from
Because I don't see it as a two headed problem
I am atheistic
Though not pessimistic
I consider the answer "god" no more valid than "goblins"
God is one option oh so unlikely
When we consider all of the things that might be
Chances are tiny
That "He" is behind it
Even if the true answer lies forever beyond our mastery
(I am now struggling to get my point across in even remotely limerickal format)

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
I don’t agree that it’s evidence free
Though we view it subjectively
There’s thought and there’s wisdom
Love and altruism
And to choose them is good we agree
If the truth is then what we both sought
Then how can we know what we ought?
Saying love is a good thing
And hate is the wrong thing
If we’re just atoms evolved from some rocks
I believe what I’ve said here is truth
Even without empirical proof
But I’m grateful for life
Even with all its strife
And for that I give thanks that’s profuse

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
Too black and white and simplistic
That between god or NOT we must pick
It’s not fifty-fifty
Those odds are too shifty
So that’s why I remain atheistic
To restrict the options to two
Is not a very sensible thing to do
There are so many
And it could be any
The options you list just too few to be true
Still thinking far too anthropomorphically
Imbuing nature with consciousness just like me
A vacuous assumption
Too full of presumption
Better to view reality more realistically
Being agnostic regarding first cause
Is a position with very few flaws
But to call it divine
Is a meaningless line
When everything known flows from natural laws

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
Too fucking drunk to be meaningful
Far far to gone to be reasonable
GDR better than me
This much I can see
Yet I find that barely conceivable
Many hours in the pub
Led astray by that Beelzebub
Drunk too much
Look like Screaming Lord Sutch
And now I feel the need to eat some glorious grub
It's probably just dehydration
But my hunger needs alleviation
Kebab looks nice
But I'll pay the price
And tomorrow suffer alienation.
BUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
A prime mover or not there may be
I’m thinking realistically
There is or there isn’t
I must be persistent
Though we can’t know objectively
If the prime mover exists it is true
That the options are more than a few
And so are the options
If the Big Bang just popped in
From a mindless pin point with no clue
Thinking anthropomorphically
When considering our ontology
In our humanness
We will ponder our quest
As part of greater reality
So I agree that whatever our views
I enjoy a discussion with you
And though we may not have proof
There’s still ultimate truth
And we both want to know what is true

Straggler's Night Out
I’ve been to a few London Pubs
And tasted a few London suds
But I suggest in your noggin
There should be more haemoglobin
Than alcohol in your blood

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
Your beliefs are subjective indeed
Based on the most very human of needs
I don’t know
What makes reality flow
But from superstition our minds need be freed
Question of how things exist
Deserves our most evidenced hypothesis
Humble beginnings
Has firm underpinnings
But God that just is contradicts this analysis

Re: Straggler's Night Out
My head is pounding and sore
Was it five pints six pints or more?
I lost count
So I cannot recount
After my rhyming I slept on the floor

Re: Straggler's Night Out
What's with the Limericks?
does it help getting chicks?
no more rap?
gone like a cut down tree's sap?
how's this for throwing up bricks?

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
Your beliefs are subjective as well
But on this there is no need to dwell
But I think that we know
What makes reality flow
In this field our science excels
It’s what undergirds reality
That’s really of interest to me
Calling it superstition
Does not make it fiction
There is more than just what we perceive
Superstition from the outside in
Impacts the world that we reside in
By that definition
Even Straggler’s cognition
Is superstition that guides him
There’s more than photons and electrons
Much of what is unseen we still count on
There are all kinds of emotions
And intelligent notions
Even the LH Collider can’t work on

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
Emotions are inside our brains
Very different to electrons photons and trains
Die and their gone
Objective reality not put upon
A reality that psychology rather than colliders explains
How can I be superstitious
When our ignorance I find so delicious
The theistic answer
Is that of the chancer
Which is to true investigation far too pernicious
To assert there is more than perceivable
Doesn’t excuse advocating all that is conceivable
This is fraught
With that which comes up short
And leads to advocating whatever one finds believable
Desist from this I plead
This warning you really really must heed
All is subjective
Is just too protective
Of the sort of thinking that is based on human need

Re: Straggler's Night Out
Hello Chuck. Bearing in mind the rhyme possibilities of your name I am sorely tempted to start a lymerickal contest with you too.
But, in the name of family decency, I shall refrain.

Re: Straggler's Strange Ideas
You say that emotions are gone
When our last breath has been drawn
This is hardly objective
And surely subjective
You’re still with us, I hope I’m not wrong
Yes there’s more than what is perceivable
That doesn’t mean all is conceivable
We all come to conclusions
Some based on illusions
Living by what’s most believable
I think far too much you protest
The subjective views I attest
For me you accuse
For yourself you excuse
The subjective views you profess

Everybody is entitled to my opinion.

You gentlemen should pay attention
To the limerick form & dimension!
As strict as a haiku,
Its Judges won't like you -
Not even an honorable mention!

There’s a critic in every crowd
Who thinks that his rhymes are endowed
With wit and direction
And subtle correction
Without any discretion allowed
