I participate on another site that has many different discussions. Several times I have seen where people remark that god is punishing Japan.
I feel this is absurd, as I understand it God does not interfere anylonger with events on earth, free will. People have to choose to accept the salvation through Jesus. God doesn't punish anyone who chooses not to belive, he hopes we all will accept in time.
I want to know if anyone agrees that the Japanese are being punished? If so , then where in the new testament is there anything to support this line of thought. I feel these so called Christians are misrepresenting the ones I know to be good people. Am I wrong??

Only the pathetic and truly pitiful folk that worship an evil disgusting God would think such things.

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

I am not going to say God is evil or disgusting, since I am atheist then saying so would equate to me admitting he exists. I do feel that these people are misrepresenting what the god of Christianity is represented as being. I just don't understand how anyone could interpret the teachings of Jesus in such a way. I would like to hear some Christians take on this? I value the input and am not trying to discuss whether God is real or not, I only want to know if there is any reason for these people to think different than the Christians I see who are praying for these people who have lost so much.

I am familiar with this youTuber. She is practising a certain form of comedy or religious mockery called playing a Poe, named after Nathan Poe. She is making a parody of extreme fundamental religious type persons in order to point out the ludicrous nature of what they are doing and how they think.

Frako my friend....thank you... I should ve had this in my original post, I didn't want to mention another forum group and didn't take the time to find other sources I felt comfortable citing. If you are ever in NC USA I will buy you dinner...lol
I just cant understand how one religion using the same book can differ so much on how it views these events?? Is there something they read in bible I missed? Is this What Jesus teaches??? If so then I know in my heart I have made the right decision regarding my beliefs.
Thanks Frako once again..

Might as well share this here.
So, last week on our way out of the lab I discussed about music with a colleague of mine, which is a christian fundamentalist. I mentioned the exitence of castrati in the old days. First of all, he refused to believe me that the church ever was involve in such "tradition". When he asked me if these people existed why did the church castrate these boys in the first place. I told him that in the early days women weren't allowed to sing in churches so they had to employ castrati to sing the high voices. Anyway, long story short, he wouldn't believe me that the bible itself forbid women to speak in church.
Brought in my bible today and showed him the passages. Should have seen the look on his face. Here was this guy who was a devout christian conservative and he didn't even know how to navigate his way through the bible. I had to help him with where everything was while he fumbled his way around.
Sometimes, don't you feel that this is what you have to deal with when you deal with the christian right? They don't even know their own bible, and yet when talk they always start their sentences with "the bible says this... the bible says that..."

Here is her favorite quote of all time:
"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."
--President George Bush, August 27, 1988
I have seen that quote repeated hundreds of other times, always from atheists and anti-religious activists, never from Christians. So, do the math.

No Punishment
The track record of the Judeo-Christian God as shown in the Bible shows that JCGod punishes other people who attack his chosen people (Hebrews) or try to convert them. JCGod also punishes his chosen people (Hebrews) for turning away from him.
The JCGod also protects the land he promised to his people or he takes it away from them.
Japan doesn't fall into any of these categories that I know of.
The JCGod is not punishing Japan. The planet just does what it does. Natural disaster with no intent behind it.
Although I can see why ancient people would feel that their gods (nature) had turned against them when such a disaster happened.

I often wonder about how many of these "Bible quoters" have actually read the Bible, it seems that what they spew is second hand rhetoric.

That is why I started this topic, I know there are some Christians on here who seem like good people and I was wondering what they thought. I really didn't expect to see the hate I have seen elsewhere, thank goodness. I didn't actually expect anyone to be able to justify these nuts actions with any relevant passages from the New Testament, although I wasn't 100% sure as my knowledge of bible is not as good as it could be.

I am a born again child of the King.
God only chastises His children. Hebrews 12:8
But as to the topic:
Good things happen to good people.
Good things happen to bad people.
Bad things happen to good people.
Bad things happen to bad people.
Now as far as Japan goes they knew they were building on a fault line for years so they have no one to blame but themselves.
When our west coast has a major quake whose fault will it be for the damages and loss of life? Those who built there as there is a known fault line there.
I live in Florida if a hurricane gets me it will be my fault because I know they come through here.
God has nothing to do with any of those things happening, they are a part of nature.
God Bless,

"John 5:39 (KJS) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

So, when good things happen, it's got nothing to do with god also.
