Re: Firefox - left click, no return to previous page option
None of the problems you mention and using FF 4.0

Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Re: Firefox - left click, no return to previous page option
Hi Moose,
I use FF4 quite a bit and have encountered none of the problems you're experiencing. Are these problems unique to EvC Forum? If you have cookies or Javascript disabled then the site won't work for you, but otherwise EvC Forum should work just as good or bad as all other sites, except for simple sites with no active content. If you recently upgraded to FF4 then your problems shouldn't be due to not reloading/refreshing in a long time, but you might try that, or even restarting the browser, or even rebooting the whole machine.
It almost sounds like your problems got worse when you upgraded, so I'm also wondering if you have an old machine and/or operating system.

Problems happen at evcforum.net AND elsewhere. Computer gets shut down every night and rebooted the next session. I do defragment frequently (at least once daily).
Newer laptop computer - Came with Windows 7. I think I've had this computer for about 1 year.
Firefox 4.0 in Windows 7.
The refresh and back problems seemed to have shown up in the later days of Firefox 3. The crash problems go back a lot further, but I don't think all the way back to new computer.
Re: Crash problems - I do sometime have quite a few tabs open at the same time (20 or more in 2 or more windows). I wonder if this caused a stability problem. Although the actually crashes don't seem to happen right at maximum tab times. Also, as best I recall, the crashes seem to happen well into browsing sessions - Maybe garbage building up somewhere.
So, the question is, is it some sort of Firefox/Windows 7 combination thing? I think Windows 7 is at least close to current - Will now again check for updates - I don't think they happen automatically.

Re: Firefox - left click, no return to previous page option
Maybe others can comment, but I don't think your experience is typical. I have three windows machines, 2 with XP and one with Windows/7 (a laptop), and I have two Linux machines, one personal the other a webhost that I rent. Perhaps because I'm lazy I never log out, I never shut down, and I never degrag other than any auto-defrags that might happen. Crashes are extremely rare, at most maybe one a month across the five machines (and the crashes are always on windows machines). I suspect that if I rebooted them every day that they'd almost never crash.
I'm no Windows expert, but degragging daily seems extreme. Unless you're writing and deleting huge volumes of files daily it doesn't seem necessary. You might try not defragging for a while and see if things change for the better or worse.
If your problems are mostly browser related you might try switching to Chrome - at least it would tell you if it's a case of FF not playing nicely with W/7 on your particular machine.
Next time you trade in your laptop you might consider a Mac. We also have 2 Macs and are about to get a 3rd in the form of an iPad2, and they literally give us no problems whatsoever. The laptop comes up on-line within a couple seconds when opened, it goes dormant when closed, and it has none of the blonky Windows sleep behavior, also know as "What the heck, I think I'll act like I have absolutely no idea what's going on when I try to restart."

Just FYI
The announcement at the top:
"The frequently asked question: "How do you do quote boxes?" "
Says this:

But the up and down arrows do not scroll the message and I cannot see the whole thing.
I'm using Internet Explorer 8.

Gee, problems with IE, why am I not surprised.
Thanks for reporting this - I'm busy on other stuff right now, I've added it to the todo list.

Un-read msg icon missing
I am running FF 4 for Linux..lucid puppy,
I was having problems with my bookmarks so I un-installed FF and downloaded the current version. Since I have done that I am missing the unread msg icon on the "all topics" page, no problems when running the Iron browser. I have tried 3 times to un install and re install FF and icon is missing all 3 times. I will try an older version of FF and let you know if it behaves the same.
ABE... working now on FF4?? All I did was un/re install it for 5th time or so??

Greasemonkey
For any FF users out there you might want to look into Greasemonkey, it is a user script manager. It is an extension for the Firefox web browser.
The official Greasemonkey
There is a ton of cool stuff that it allows you to do. One of the coolest is block ads that run before some videos on YouTube along with the ads that appear at the bottom of the videos also.
