Re: sense of humor?
humor is always an excuse for, especially when posted in a humor thread. If you don't have a sense of humor, or are offended by a mexican-american making a joke about other mexicans, then tuff shit.
Why would you even post this in the "racist?" thread? when obviously there is nothing even racist about the joke.

As a response to a joke that evidently went over your head, that makes up in unintentional irony for what it lacks in ... well, everything else.
Why would you even post this in the "racist?" thread? when obviously there is nothing even racist about the joke.
To show how "obviously" non-racist you are, of course. Since some people have implied that you were racist, I thought that in your defense I should give an example of how you can discuss black people and Mexicans in a way that "obviously" has "nothing even racist" about it.
And yet somehow you jumped to the conclusion that I was trying to show you in a bad light. But how could I be, when this is such an "obvious" example of non-racism?
Pray tell us, what led you to think that this "obvious" example of non-racism could be interpreted as anything but a warm-hearted paean of love towards all humanity regardless of color or national origin?

what I wondered was why you posted this in the "racist?" thread, when it makes no sense to be placed here. I never said anything about you portraying me in a bad-light, that is something you said that i thought (what do you now have mind reading powers).
you are getting pretty silly, like rrhain, theodoric, buzzsaw, and kuresu, I wanted to keep you off that list, but you are a horrible troll, so welcome to the club.

Why, to show what a wonderful big-hearted person you are. Is there anything at all about your "obviously" non-racist post that leads you to think that I could have had any other motive?

I have post-reading powers.

And yet I have gone out of my way to display you in such a good light. Thanks to me, everyone on this thread will read your post and admire your obvious not-at-all-racism ... and these are the thanks I get.
I'm hurt, Artemis. Surprised and hurt.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when his dentist, Dr. Tim Whatley converted to Judaism and began to make jokes about them.
quote:
Whatley converts to Judaism, and Jerry expresses to Whatley's Catholic priest in a confession his belief that Whatley has done this solely for right to make jokes (which offends him, not as a Jewish person, but as a comedian).
Your joke offends me in the same way, AE. lol

Black Mexicans?
If you don't have a sense of humor, or are offended by a mexican-american making a joke about other mexicans, then tuff shit.
But that's not what you did.
Now had you said...
A fat Mexican-American and a skinny Mexican-American jump off a cliff, who hits the ground first?
Who cares?
...you might, as a Mexican-American have a point.
I think both the black and the Mexican might think the Mexican-American was not expressing jocular solidarity, hm?

Have you ever been to an American wedding? Where's the vodka? Where's the marinated herring?!

A joke is a joke
damn how fucking lib is everyone around here!?!
offended by almost nothing. you can like a joke, or dislike a joke, but to get offended by one you dislike and assume its racist, well shit that's hilarious in itself.
you fucking liberal retards! I love this place! lololololol
Your joke offends me in the same way, AE. lol
yeah but I know you get offended by the most subjective of opinoins anyway, so sorry, but since you get offended easier than the bitches in Human Resources, its hard to care when you are offended, because it happens way to often.

Re: A joke is a joke
In order for something to be a racist joke, it must be funny. Otherwise it isn't a joke - it is just racist.

Re: A joke is a joke
How about the following?
There's a priest, a minister and a rabbi out playing golf and trying to decide how much to give to charity.
So the priest says, we'll draw a circle on the ground, we'll throw the money way up in the air and whatever lands inside the circle, we give to charity.
The minister says "no", we'll draw a circle on the ground, throw the money way up in the air and whatever lands outside, that's what we give to charity.
The rabbi says "no, no, no", we'll throw the money way up in the air and whatever God wants, He keeps.

Re: A joke is a joke
i never claimed it to be a racist joke, that is somebody else's strawman.
i claim it is a joke that is devoid of racism, whether you think it is funny or not does not qualify if it is a joke or not.
@ Taz:
yeah that is good one, what movie was that from?
also not racist its clearly about religion and stereotypes of religious sects, only morons think Jews are a race.

Re: Tea Party again, surprise surprise
I don't know if anyone has read this article today or not.
Opinion | Crashing the Tea Party - The New York Times
Here is a quote that I wanted to focus on.
quote:
Beginning in 2006 we interviewed a representative sample of 3,000 Americans as part of our continuing research into national political attitudes, and we returned to interview many of the same people again this summer. As a result, we can look at what people told us, long before there was a Tea Party, to predict who would become a Tea Party supporter five years later. We can also account for multiple influences simultaneously isolating the impact of one factor while holding others constant.
Our analysis casts doubt on the Tea Party’s origin story. Early on, Tea Partiers were often described as nonpartisan political neophytes. Actually, the Tea Party’s supporters today were highly partisan Republicans long before the Tea Party was born, and were more likely than others to have contacted government officials. In fact, past Republican affiliation is the single strongest predictor of Tea Party support today.
What’s more, contrary to some accounts, the Tea Party is not a creature of the Great Recession. Many Americans have suffered in the last four years, but they are no more likely than anyone else to support the Tea Party. And while the public image of the Tea Party focuses on a desire to shrink government, concern over big government is hardly the only or even the most important predictor of Tea Party support among voters.
So what do Tea Partiers have in common? They are overwhelmingly white, but even compared to other white Republicans, they had a low regard for immigrants and blacks long before Barack Obama was president, and they still do.
More important, they were disproportionately social conservatives in 2006 opposing abortion, for example and still are today. Next to being a Republican, the strongest predictor of being a Tea Party supporter today was a desire, back in 2006, to see religion play a prominent role in politics. And Tea Partiers continue to hold these views: they seek deeply religious elected officials, approve of religious leaders’ engaging in politics and want religion brought into political debates. The Tea Party’s generals may say their overriding concern is a smaller government, but not their rank and file, who are more concerned about putting God in government.
This inclination among the Tea Party faithful to mix religion and politics explains their support for Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. Their appeal to Tea Partiers lies less in what they say about the budget or taxes, and more in their overt use of religious language and imagery, including Mrs. Bachmann’s lengthy prayers at campaign stops and Mr. Perry’s prayer rally in Houston.
Again, many of us have questioned since the beginning the REAL motives for the origin of the tea party. I find it hard to believe that it was a coincidence that after Reagan doubling the national debt followed by Bush's spending spree like there was no tomorrow, a conservative political party formed for the sole purpose of opposing the first black president in history. Sure, you can find one or two black people here and there in the tea party just like you could find one or two jew here and there among the nazis.
