Re: Why does Aaron neeeeeed a starship
You say that as if you are insinuating it always has been. It is my opinion that only recently that the crazy has really been allowed to run rampant. I know I'm still a new guy, but the beginning of my stint seemed fairly "crazy-free". The crazies were pretty well trodded off either via moderation or humiliation. Now, it seems, they feel as though they have a valid place here.

"A still more glorious dawn awaits
Not a sunrise, but a galaxy rise
A morning filled with 400 billion suns
The rising of the milky way"
-Carl Sagan

EvC crazies are like buses. None for ages and then they all come at once. Must be the phase of the moon or summin.

crazies
Is EvC becoming a haven for the crazies?
I don't think what you are seeing is so much, more crazies, as it is, less sane people. During Dover we had dozens of relatively well-educated well-spoken people defending creationist doctrines and pseudoscience in a very interesting and entertaining way. Now we get maybe one a month, this puts the less gifted trickle into stark relief.
I like Slagger's bus stop motif, but I don't think of the crazies as the busses but rather as, you know, the crazies. One will march up, tape up a weird sign from her church and stagger off, another will sit on the bench and shout crap about 9-11 at irregular intervals, another definitely wants to get somewhere but is having a huge amount of time explaining exactly where so anyone can understand them, another is definitely headed to the hospital. And then off to one side there are some toughs, who sort of intimidate people but aren't actually getting on the bus at all, just killing time.

Final comments please - If you can figure out what the topic theme is
Personally, I'm still a fan of closing topics down at about 300 messages. I think the probability of the topic having gone bad is something like .9999.
Final/closing remarks please. I'll try to remember to close this topic tomorrow.

Summation
I don't know what the topic is.
I think we lost it after the first two dozen posts.
C'est la vie.

I have debated the self-proclaimed infallible, even the self-proclaimed divine, but I have to draw the line somewhere.
To me debating self-proclaimed extraterrestrials is simply beyond an exercise in futility.
As a mere human, I am left at a loss for words. I am an information professional, not a mental health professional.

The idea of the sacred is quite simply one of the most conservative notions in any culture, because it seeks to turn other ideas - uncertainty, progress, change - into crimes.
Salman Rushdie
This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It’s us. Only us. - the character Rorschach in Watchmen
