So admins can rate and flag forum guideline problem messages.
There would only be one admin rating given to any single message (Once it's first rated, no other admin can add another opinion). The demerit rating points for a member would NOT be averaged. Rather, they would be summed. Build up to high of a sum and you might be suspension bound, with maybe the suspension length being proportional to the sum. It would be nice if an admin (or any member?) could choose to see a listing of a members demerit postings. Something along the lines of the current one member only display of a topic, only that it would cross all topic boundaries. An admin can choose to reset the sum value to zero, or perhaps an individual message demerit could expire after a given time period (3 months?). Also, a suspension would reset the sum, either automatically or manually by an admin. But I would like to see the demerit rating persist at the topic itself. Such would permanently display that there was an admin disapproval about the message. Or something like that. Feedback welcome. Adminnemooseus

Interesting idea, but it doesn't have to replace the suggested 3-button positive rating scale. You could have both. I didn't specifically say such, but having both is also my thought. My 1 to 5 system suspicions are that 1's and 2's will be given out mostly by "wise guys" and/or someone with some sort of grudge against another member. On the other hand, I don't see the opposite happening - "Wise guys" and friends giving out gratuitous 4's and 5's. Therefore, eliminate the 1's and 2's. Speaking of "wise guys", someone's apparently given me (the admin mode) a bunch of 1's. My first rated message (a very atypical style admin message) was a 4. Since then my rating has dropped to a 2.0. I tried several types of searches to find the later rated messages without finding any. It would be nice to be able to search a members messages to find the 4's and 5's (and on the perverse side, the 1's and 2's). Likewise, it would be nice to be able to do a search for a members admin demerit messages (assuming such a thing comes to be). Adminnemooseus

The rating system is badly flawed and the creation side does gets hammered pretty hard.
I think you need to look at what messages are getting rated "1" (not that there's currently a system to track such down). My impression (and I did "1" at least one of your messages) is that you have stood out a bit, for posting trite little comments that serve only to clutter topics. Usually I only "1" messages via the Adminnemooseus ID, and from the admin appraisal perspective. I think it is the member job to flag good messages with 4's or 5's, and the admin job to flag bad messages with 1's. Adminnemooseus

First, there was a new recent message/member rating issue topic, which I just closed. It didn't amount to much but can be found at: poster ratings?
Somewhere, not currently to be found, I recall seeing a suggestion from (i believe) RAZD. The essence was that the only rating a member could give to a message would be a "good message" rating - Kind of like giving it a "5", without having any "1" thru "4" option available. I like this idea. The message would be rated by how many "good message" votes it got. If you see a message with a "7" rating, that would mean it has received 7 "good message" votes. In a similar vein, a members rating would be the sum of his/her "good message" votes received. "Bad message" voting would be by admin only. As such, an admin can choose to flag a bad message. An individual messages "bad message" rating would be the sum of the admins "bad message" votes. Likewise, there could be a member "bad message" rating. So, each message and each member could have two varieties of ratings. One from the member perspective, one from the administrative perspective. How about message rating only? That could be an control panel option
I really dont like the Idea of admin being the only one being able to rate something bad, I agree with Tesla, this is only going to cause more accusations of bias. I guess I wasn't clear. The guidelines for admin negative ratings would be the forum rules. If an individual admin perceives a rule violation problem, he can easily flag the message with an "admin thumbs down". One of the benefits of such, is that everyone can see when a message has administrative disapproval - A sign that says "All or a significant part of this message should not have been posted". Much easier and much less messy than admin message responses to the offending message, admins needing to "hide" text, admins needing to add "off-topic" banners, etc. In the tradition of this forum, such admin disapproval would probably tend to come down harder on the evo side members. In the past, in the spirit of my suggestion, Minnemooseus has given out 5's and 4's to messages, and Adminnemooseus has given out 1's to messages. If you notice a crappy little evo-member message that's been tagged with a "1", chances are it was from Adminnemooseus. An example is this Jar message, for which I also did a zero time suspension and an off-topic banner. Adminnemooseus Added by edit: The member done ratings and the admin done ratings would be two separate things. Edited by Adminnemooseus, : "zero time suspension" link. Edited by Adminnemooseus, : See above. Please be familiar with the various topics and other links in the "Essential Links", found in the top of the page menu. It's a nuisance to have to do an ID swap to give an up or down to a message.
Likewise for PM's. Adminnemooseus

You are specifically the reason I discontinued the (-) option. I would have preferred to keep displaying the member rating number, but unfortunately it included the past (-) input even though the (-) was not a current option.
See the subtitle. This is NOT at all how I saw you using the (+)/(-) system. Instead, you seemed to just give most to all of the evolution side messages a (+) and most to all of the creationist side messages a (-). Which, to me, was nothing much more than you being a jerk (OSLT). I've been advocating from way back, that the (+) option be in the hands of the members and the (-) option be only in the hands of the admins. Admin/Percy could set up all kinds of variations to choose from, but this would be contrary to the much merit Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) principle. AdminnemooseusOr something like that.

I would have preferred to keep displaying the member rating number, but unfortunately it included the past (-) input even though the (-) was not a current option. Right now, everyone's rating that I have seen has been at a 10.0. It might as well not exist at all. The most recent change I had made, was to limit the effective window to 30 days rather than the original 90 days. Now, all the (-) are no longer in the window. I was under the vague impression that the member rating system would work somehow, even with only (+) votes. Such does not seem to be the case.
I've been advocating from way back, that the (+) option be in the hands of the members and the (-) option be only in the hands of the admins. Get on it already. Or go back to what it was if you ain't ready. This current thing is worthless. Do something. Making the (-) vote admin only is outside of my powers. It requires a software change by Percy. I have tried to have a discussion of message/member ratings in the "Private Administration Forum", but have had essentially no input from the other admins, and none from Percy/Admin. AdminnemooseusOr something like that.

The (-) votes should all precede the last 90 days.
I don't know if Percy/Admin needs to give the system a special goose for this to have an effect. AdminnemooseusOr something like that.

Page 1
Page 2 The list can be sorted in other ways. For example, if you wish to see a mass of spammer suspension red dots, sort by "reg date" over at the right side of the table. Page 2 has a lot more than page 1. AdminnemooseusOr something like that.
