You can find the story here, along with an amusing YouTube rebuttal.
Essentially, Kirk Cameron is paying to give away 50,000 copies of The Origin of the Species on university campuses on 21st November, the 150th aniversary of it's publications. These, however, will be "special" copies which include this introduction which contains all the usual spread of Creationist misinformation and ad hominem.
Interesting. On the one hand *sigh* more Creationist bullshit, on the other thousands of free copies of Darwin's compelling and brilliant work handed out by the very people who wish to surpress it. That's ironically wonderful. The idea of Christians holding yard sales to give out free copies of The Origin is a level of comic genius no Evolutionist stunt could get near.
Er, Misc topics, probably?

Apparently, they're going to distribute 50,000 copies of their edited version of On the Origin of Species with commentaries on facts and stuff.
For the right-wing christians out there, how would you feel if muslims distribute 50,000 copies of their edited version of the bible with commentaries on facts and stuff?
Edited by Taz, : No reason given.

Mr Jack, I don't agree that this is wonderful. Most people aren't educated enough to be able to understand a fraction of what's in the book. This is not to mention the patience it takes to read the writing style.

How would you feel?

More importantly: how would you feel being lumped in with someone who being so blatantly dishonest?

Re: How would you feel?
Point taken. I'll replace christian with right-wing christian.
Edit.
I actually got a very good idea from a youtube vid response. I'll start working on a 50 page commentary of connections between hitler and christianity, oppression of women by christians, oppression of other cultures by christians, whacko "theories" that came out of christian doctrine, etc.

Origin
I did find a link and read the entire 54 pages the other day. It almost had me converted, I was right on the cusp of dedicating my life to Christianity. Then I read the part after "Origin of Species - Charles Darwin - 150th Anniversary Edition" and they lost me. So close!

Doctor Bashir: "Of all the stories you told me, which were true and which weren't?"
Elim Garak: "My dear Doctor, they're all true"
Doctor Bashir: "Even the lies?"
Elim Garak: "Especially the lies"

Question
Question:
Are they leaving the entire text of Origin intact, or will they be quote mining it as they do on their dishonest websites?
I can't believe that they would actually distribute the full text of Origin, as many folks would actually learn something. I can only believe that they will be doing a condensed version with the text edited to support their positions and to make Darwin look as bad as possible to their selected audience.
Does anyone know whether the text will be completely intact?

Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge.

Re: Question
They're claiming to leave the whole thing intact. But I guess we will find out in november.

Re: Question
The first proposed version left out 50 pages. Ray Comfort (yeah, him) is now claiming that the full text has been restored. Of course, a while back he also claimed to be rewriting the intro to rid it of its current accumulation of canards, distortions, and blatant nonsense. He has since recanted, and is apparently going to leave the original as is, since he's just discovered that Darwin really was a racist after all.
It's the usual rollicking good fun over at Ray Comfort's website.
First post here. Howdy.

Re: Question
Welcome!
Thanks for the information. I'll see if I can snag a copy when it comes out. It will make a fun addition to my library.

Do we know which universities they're going to? It'd be great to pick up a copy if they're going to be at CU. I bet the Young Republicans are dying to bring this group in.

Re: Question
It won't be intact, they're removing the last four chapters or so, as I understand it. But the text itself will be unaltered. Apparently.

How to convert the heathens.
Now, if we could just get the Gideons to leave a copy of Origin of Species in every hotel room!

It's the irony of it that I find wonderful, I don't honestly expect it to make much difference.
