Avatar Question
This isn't really on-topic, but in reading this thread I've become more curious about our members, and I find myself clicking on their avatars to see them at a larger size. Oftentimes I'm disappointed to find that the avatars are really small.
In some cases perhaps the small size preserves anonymity, but that aside I often find myself wishing they had uploaded a larger avatar. The software automatically scales any image to the correct size. I *do* have an upper limit on the image size on disk of around 130kB, but other than that there is no limitation.
Would more people upload larger images (in terms of pixel dimensions) if I increased that limit? We have more than sufficient disk space for it, the only downside being that people with slow connections will get slow page loads when large images (in terms of bytes) are present.

Re: Avatar Question
The reason my avatar is small is simply that I use the same avatar a number of sites, some of which require a small sized graphic. It was much easier for me to use one size for all so to speak.

Re: Avatar Question
Hi Percy,
... the only downside being that people with slow connections will get slow page loads when large images (in terms of bytes) are present.
Would it be be possible to have a thumbnail of pictures made so the page loads with thumbnails, but clicking on them loads the original?
Would it be possible for posts to retain the name and avatar posted with, along with a note (now posting as ...)?
Reading old threads and seeing replies to "quiggly" in the message text but not in the post list is cnofsunig.
As for the topic, not sure I'd like to sit down with catbert, but bill would be a gas. (literally)

Yes. The member alias at the time a message is posted is recorded in the database.

Very, very drunk.
I plan to get very, very drunk tonight as my wife is working the night ward and I'm alone in the house.
I'm going to imagine that I'm sharing a drink with you all.
Cheers!

okay, you get a 5 from me. I like to have some beers while playing FPS's, but I don't get what I'd call "very, very drunk". Yikes.

Re: Very, very drunk.
Yup Then I have the house to myself, I can play my silly video games and smoke (shush, don't tell the wife!) and watch Family Guy on DVD.
To make it even better I'm listening to D&D pod casts with Will Wheaten (Wesley Crusher off of Star Trek)!
Go Team Larni
(I know Team Larni is a bit ironic, here.

I past out on the leviathan boss on Deadspace: Extraction last week. The wife was well vexed when I came to bed at 4am.

Re: Very, very drunk.
Wow. That sounds all too familiar.
Except for the D&D podcasts. Gimme a link.
And now that I think back... I remeber only having a couple beers to drink one night, so after those I decided to go with vodka/sprites instead. Being engrossed in the game and not realized how much stronger the new drinks were, I do remember my girlfriend comming home and wondering how the hell I got so trashed when I was sitting at home in front of the computer all night
