Re: EvC becomes more of a joke
In NH, driving privileges can be suspended. You have to turn your license in to the motor vehicle agency once your privileges are suspended. They mail it back to you after the suspension period, but there's a fee.
Severe violations can result in license revocation, meaning you don't get it back, but you can usually file for reinstatement after a certain time period, and if the application is approved there would be a hearing before a judge. The applicant pays all filing and court fees.

Re: Geology & The Great Flood Admin Moderation
If I could reemphasize Quetzal's point, science attempts to find out what is objectively true about the universe. Objective means that the evidence says the same thing to people of all races and religions. You can't offer evidence acceptable only to people of a particular religious belief. Evidence with that particular quality is not evidence but faith.
It is therefore completely unscientific to accept something as true without corroboration. The theories in science in which we have the greatest confidence are those with the greatest corroboration, i.e., those that are woven most tightly into the fabric of science.
There is no scientific evidence corroborating the interpretations of the creation stories in the Bible. Notice that I said "interpretations", because this lack of corroborating evidence makes it possible for fundamentalists to endorse many different interpretations. Walt Brown interprets the Bible to say the universe is billions of years old, while Ken Ham interprets the Bible to say the universe is at most 10,000 years old. ICR interprets the Bible in such a way that they conclude there was a vapor canopy, while the Discovery Institute interprets the Bible to endorse intelligent design. In other words, if one is ignoring real-world evidence, one can draw whatever conclusions one likes, but they'll all be different conclusions, and they won't have any correspondence to reality.

Aside from Percy, those you listed tend to remind those they are in discussion with. I don't notice them posting just to remind someone of the rules.
Gee, I agree with you that members, including moderators while in regular member garb, should only be noting Forum Guidelines violations, not performing all but the equivalent of a citizen's arrest. Hopefully I haven't hoisted myself too high up my own petard!
Not replying to you now but to everyone, just writing some thoughts that have occurred to me as I've watched this discussion, it feels to me that a good moderator has to have some of the qualities of a good doormat, because strict moderation seems to discourage discussion and encourage a sense that moderation is biased. This happens even when there's no clear moderator bias in evidence, as shown by the countless times that moderators have been charged with bias by both sides at the same time.
So it probably works best when moderators are slow to act and quick to forgive. As others have noted, moderation is an odd kind of task that often feels thankless for long periods of time because the positive effects can't be measured, since we can't know what other outcomes might have come about had moderation taken a different approach.
But then comes that rare moment when a thread once bogged down in discord and dissension suddenly starts humming along while all sing your praises, and then it's all worthwhile!
