FireFox Problem?

I haven't been able to get to EvC with FireFox for over 12 hours. I can on IE.Is it my problem?

I haven't been able to access it on either fF or IE until just now. And judging from the fact that since I checked it last night at around 22:30 (my time), there haven't been any new posts, I'd say nobody could.

After again being up for weeks and weeks, the server evidently crashed yesterday afternoon just after I left work for a busy evening agenda that meant I couldn't check the website again until this morning. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I've just tried with ff, IE and chrome with no problems.While I'm here, anyone know why chrome is rubbish at downloading pdf? I'm doing a lit search and having a bugger of a time.Chrome's glitchy with cut n past here, too.Edited by Larni, : No reason given.

I'm using Chrome 24/7 these days, including for website development. The early version were pretty raw for downloads and video. Are you using the latest version, 1.0.154.43?If so, can you provide a little bit more detail about pdf and cut-n-paste problems?--Percy

Yup, up to date.The problem: If I cut an paste a sentence, right click and select paste the cursor moves one space to the left of where I place it (over writing whatever character was occupying that space in the line).It would leave something like this ABE: this original text I wrote to show the problem did not show up.If I attempt to pasts at the start of a line of a post the whole line is selected (rather than just the character).I've learnt to work around it (it's not a big issue) but I just thought I would ask.I think the pdf issue is something to do with active x (as I get a prompt when I attempt to do the download a pdf in IE- which I allow).I suspect I have not found the 'allow active x' button in chrome; any ideas?ABE: I see that part of my message just did not show up!!'It would leave something like this' should have been followed by:/qs ABE: again the text did not show upABE: Now I'm really confused! What do you know, it's pretty broken when you use right click! I'd say avoid right-click in text boxes from now on.I've always used Ctrl-X (cut), Ctrl-C (copy) and Ctrl-V (paste), and they work fine.Also, avoid the extremely neat but also broken icon in the lower right hand corner of text boxes. It allows you to change the dimensions of the text box, but after doing so the text box doesn't work very well any more.About pdf problems, give me a link to one that causes the problem and I'll see if I can get a better idea of what might be happening.--Percy

Thanks for trying, Percy.I'm on Vista premium with all the updates. I think it's something to do with active x controls but I can't find any options in chrome.Hay ho.

Message Message 114 of mine contains a reply to purpledawn made up of my response to her quoted text. When I press the reply button on this (or any other) post and copy/paste text from the post (under the reply text pane) onto the reply text pane, a double copy of what I've selected appears in the reply paneCuriously, the first copy drops the dbcodes whilst the second copy maintains them.Any idea how to resolve this?

Some browsers are more touchy about this than others, but let me explain what is happening.When you reply to a message you'll see a pair of radio buttons in the upper right hand corner of the message you're replying to. They're labeled "Normal" and "Peek Mode". Clicking back and forth between these radio buttons changes the display of the message between normal mode and peek mode. Normal mode is the text you'll usually see displayed for a message, while peek mode is the actual original text of the message including all HTML and dBCodes. The way this is done is that both versions of the message are present, but only one of them is visible at a time.Some browsers are a little touchy and if you select the normal text but go one little bit past the last displayed character, then it also selects the hidden peek mode text. And if you're in peek mode and you select a little bit before the first character, then it also selects the hidden normal text. You can eliminate the problem if you're careful about selecting text.I've got a few free moments right now, so I'll take a look and see if I can modify my approach a little bit so Firefox doesn't make this mistake, but no promises.

Gotcha! Thanks. It's not so hard now that I understand what's happening but great if you can simplify text select.

Sorry, FF is dumb as a log about this. It doesn't care whether hidden text is in a <div> or a <table>, it still allows you to cut-n-paste it, even though you can't see it and don't know it isn't there. This is an FF bug, and it's possible that IE may have it, too. You'll just have to be careful selecting text.

I decided to try a few more things. I changed the positioning to absolute and moved the hidden text a thousand pixels off the page, but FF still selected it anyway. I also tried setting the display parameter to values like block and table, and that didn't work either. I Googled around looking for a workaround, but no luck. Sorry.
